Wood is blue.
As a fan of 'Man' from the Conran house, I took a chance on a blind buy here - lacking reviews, aside from "my Husband loves it!!", and because I generally like mint and violet.
Well, the Husband is not poorly served with this fragrance. €20 per 100ml, perhaps a bit more in British Pounds, and a nice bottle are already a good start.
Everything else is also quite acceptable. The initial mint-alcohol cloud dissipates within seconds, leaving mostly sandalwood with a slightly peppery-cool base that gives off a light aura of tea. Now and then, with a bit of imagination, you can still catch a hint of violet and something warm-ambered, but a major transformation is not offered here.
I am somewhat torn. Conran Blue is not a hidden gem, not a masterpiece, and certainly not 'blue'. It reminds me, among other things, of pencil and wooden spatula. And yet, it is balanced, harmonious, and offers enough subtle performance for the Husband's day in the office. I suspect my final opinion will reveal itself in the autumn.
