Rich, deep and beautiful
Just like a torrid summer day, when the air is so dense and saturated with the scent of flowers. A deep yellow scent. A waxy scent sticking to your skin and warming the air even more.
The tuberose is dominating the scene and without reading the ingredients of the composition, I thought it had an ambery nuance. I wonder what that really was.
The longevity is extraordinary. I woke up in the morning still surrounded by the scent of the warmest summer day ever.

Peut-être un spectaculaire coucher de soleil?
A 'sunny day' to my nose this fragrance is not ... perhaps more like a spectacular sunset? Notwithstanding, Jour Ensoleillé is part of a Sonoma Scent Studio sample set I recently ordered and I am completely thrilled by it!

I've noticed that I compare quite a few frags that I review to Kilian Hennesey's releases. I'm not quite sure why ... perhaps it's because the divine M. Hennesey makes fragrances that are out of my fiscal reach. Some of them are very beautiful, so I guess I use them as a sort of 'yardstick'. I am very happy to report that Jour Ensoleillé reminds me of by Kilian's Beyond Love ... only much, much better! I have them on in a 'side by side' and the resemblance is uncanny! The Coconut in Beyond Love gives it a slightly sweeter slant, but my nose goes back to Jour Ensoleillé more appreciatively every time!
What I really love about this Laurie Erickson creation is her pure gumption (in 2009 no less!) to combine white florals with large lashings of Oakmoss ... just brilliant! Oakmoss is often accused of dating fragrances. I think this misconception arises from the fact that because of certain 'regulations', one doesn't really have the opportunity of smelling true evernia prunastri in perfumes anymore.
I detect quite a bit of Jasmine but more than that I smell a really fleshy Tuberose, raw and bit rough around the edges while the resins here anchor this fragrance in a solid earthiness. If I believed in something like a 'masculine' white floral, this would be it!!

The fact that SSS produces fragrances in extrait concentrations that don't break the bank puts this house into the stratosphere for me. I envision a long and healthy relationship :).

Jour Pas Tellement Ensoleillé
Jasmine and oakmoss—or reasonable facsimiles—loom large in Sonoma Scent Studio JOUR ENSOLEILLE. To my nose this is more appropriate for an overcast, threatening-to-rain day than as a celebration of bright sunlight. In fact, JOUR ENSOLEILLE seems just perfect for today in Boston, with a lot of wind, and numerous gray cumulus clouds threatening to spill their contents any moment now. The wind is so loud that it seems menacing, beckoning me to remain inside my warm apt. with my even warmer divine white furry feline friend, Diogenes incarnate aka Howard Hughes kitty aka Nanook of the North aka Houdini aka Orson Welles avatar aka Emperor Oliver, who, I recently learned is coincidentally the same age as Hugh Hefner. Let's just hope that HH kitty does not dump me for a younger, more nubile, could-be-his-great-granddaughter member of his very large fan club—all females in existence, to be precise. But I digress...

JOUR ENSOLEILLE has enough oakmoss to be a turn-off to those who have not acquired a taste for the somewhat dirty, dusty, even “old lady” quality of the perfumes in which it figures big. I, however, happen to like that note a lot. Is this presentation worthy of a full bottle? Probably not. This one reminds of several other middling oakmoss-rich perfumes and does not stand out from the crowd. It's not bad, but it's not great either. The alleged neroli and tuberose included in this composition are beyond my threshold capacity to detect. Désolée.
