Asian Wedding Horse Hire
The wedding of Nahul and Sita took place in the "Champagne" hall. And she wasn't the only one...

As a family with two children we like to book the Novotels, because the offspring in the parents' room can pass for free. This kind of thing is gradually coming to an end due to puberty, but we have spent our most recent stay in London the same way.

The Novotel in Hammersmith is large enough to accommodate entire congresses. And apparently it's popular for Indian weddings where it's supposed to rock. In the week of our visit alone there were two such celebrations, to which people came in droves in partly magnificent ornament.

On the evening of August 4th we got stuck in the room at the end of a 3sat live broadcast of the "Wacken Open Air" and followed the performance of a troupe called "Nightwish" for a while, in which a disguised opera singer and a croaking Viking took over the vocal part alternately. Eventually there was enough, everything off and on to bed.

Suddenly the room trembled in a roar, as if Wacken had just been moved to the floor below. Only slowly did recognizable sounds emerge from the noise, which rather spoke for something oriental. The wedding! After maybe a quarter of an hour it was then practically quiet again from one moment to the next - downright spooky.

One other day we left the hotel through the back exit, through a kind of semi-garage. Instead of the usual vehicle evaporation, it smelled like...horse. And indeed there was a trailer with the inscription "Asian Wedding Horse Hire" on the side, next to which a patient (and hopefully hearing-impaired; see below) mould could be groomed.

It was time to find out. Apparently part of every real Indian wedding is that the groom(!) rides on a white horse, while a chapel makes as much noise as possible. Head cinema: I stand upstairs on the level of the conference rooms in front of the elevator, the door opens and a horse approaches me. Klaus & Klaus would be thrilled.

Um...horse. To'Equestrian': As the Sherlocks among the perfumers may have already guessed, it will be about a day around the horse. And that's where the problem begins. According to her online biography, Mrs Erickson has a corresponding affinity. Now the animals smell quite...strong. Only true horse lovers can love this smell - and call it something other than "stench".

A portion of scepticism was thus above the first test. However,'Equestrian' smells amazingly restrained like a horse,'Habit Rouge' I find much more violent in this respect, even the big London garage basically had more of it on Klaus & Klaus day.

Instead, we should turn our attention to the other olfactory images, which are very well done. Be it the apple note, which after today's resinous, almost turpentine attack penetrates and resembles the cider compote or even cider. As if it were the aging specimens that the dear cattle receives.

A little conifer, strong wood, smooth leather, a lush and heavy florality - all this fits to the idea of a ride on a golden autumn day. It is already sensitively cool in the early morning, but now, later in the day, still warming sunlight sheds itself in generous abundance. Above the land lies that overripe aura that precedes late autumn decay, which always makes me nostalgic and which I still like.

And as the scent senses my sensation, a voluminous creaminess envelops me from noon on, which nevertheless does not try to cover up the touch of - let us call it by name - rottenness that has already begun in the very smallest, but takes on the course of things, in the certainty that the next spring will come after autumn and winter. I hear the gnome words of Tomte Tummetott, reassuringly fanning out the animals on the winterly farm: "Patience only, patience! Spring is coming."

And finally, silence returns. A bitter, mature, grown-up, almost strict amber note accompanies me well into the evening and ends the journey with a fragrance that impressed me, but which I will not wear.

Thanks to Jumi for rehearsing.
