Powdery Rose and Silent Oudh
Once again, an uncommented fragrance from one of my favorite houses. Pretty blue bottle. Stylish gold plate. Whether the name "Gracious" is aptly chosen, we'll leave aside for now.
When studying the pyramid, it becomes quite clear that this must be a rose-oud combination. At this point, the fans of this combo are probably already out, as they feel they have smelled every variation of this theme. The other half of the fragrance community may have never been able to appreciate this direction and found it too harsh, oriental, or simply (depending on the barnyard aspect of the oudh) unbearable.
To both factions, I would like to recommend the, in my opinion, unjustly overlooked Gracious. Why?
Well, the fragrance essentially has no pyramid and places a beautiful, almost powdery-ethereal rose at its center right from the start. For a brief moment, a somewhat angular oudh flashes through in the first 5 minutes. "The supposed evil" quickly slips back behind the curtain and now supports the rose with a light woodiness.
Interestingly, one cannot really "smell" Hedion. However, since I have tested a few fragrances that contain this specific fragrance compound, I now actually believe I can recognize this minimal floral-woody-powdery note of Hedion. What is interesting about this fragrance compound is that it usually only supports and accentuates what is already present, but is not really identifiable on its own.
Now, Hedion continues to contribute ethereal accords and gives the floating rose more depth.
If I may venture a comparison, Gracious is strongly oriented towards a Sweetie Aoud or O by Roja - just a bit more powdery-ethereal... and without fruit. And that, in turn, shifts it into my target profile.
PS: While testing Ardent, many parallels between both fragrances can be easily sniffed out. So it remains a question of price and/or bottle color ;)
