Climbing Plant
When I first smelled the fragrance on my skin, it felt strangely familiar. So I went online and searched for pictures of the bottle. Tada! This bottle was in my mother's small fragrance collection.

I never wore this scent myself as a child because my mother had forbidden me under threat of death to even touch it. Whether it was that expensive back then, I can't really say, but my mum was probably more afraid that I would empty the bottle too quickly.

The top note is somewhat strict and subtly soapy, but after five minutes this strictness fades and makes way for a strange floral accord.

I don't know the name of the plant that the scent of Symbiose reminds me of. It's a climbing plant with either white or pink flowers, which do not consist of individual petals. As a child, I loved to smell these flowers, as the flower cup would snugly fit against my entire nose when inhaling. This floral accord lasts a long time, and only after about 3 hours does the scent become a bit spicier and woodier.

The longevity on my skin is quite good, and I can imagine that this fragrance, with the right dosage, also produces a decent sillage.

I would like to thank the archaeologically inclined Medusa for this strange childhood memory and the generous decant.

Archaeological excavations were necessary...
... to find out that it is indeed the aforementioned fragrance that I am describing, as the dear donor of the generous sample did not know where it came from, as it was a gift. Yes, Medusa tirelessly dug through the WWW and struck gold. Yep, it is indeed this Symbiose from 1980, but the launch year must have been sometime in the late 1970s, and unfortunately, the fragrance had a short life, lasting only about 5 years. You can find it here and there on international markets at horrendous prices. Well, the most beautiful often die young, and no one knows why. Symbiose is not a typical powerhouse of its time. It has a distinct sillage and gigantic longevity, but it is not one of those typical 80s hits. Perhaps it is because it was composed back in the 1970s?
Symbiose starts with an aldehydic note, which almost immediately gives way to noble flowers. I suspect Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Night Orchid. Tuberose and Gardenia do not seem to be present. (I just applied it again, oh how beautiful it is!!!) Rose and Iris play the pan flute!
The base is musky, warm, slightly woody, and very sensual!
Conclusion: A warm, very balanced fragrance, flattering, present. Floriental and one of the very fine ones.
I have often thought: "Man, I know you!" Then I had the revelation like floodlights at a football game. Byzance by Rochas smells very similar but is a bit louder.
A picture of this little treasure is in my photo album.

Initially many aldehydes, soapy, spicy.
Later it becomes softer.
Elegant, feminine, classic, spicy, floral.
Strong sillage and good longevity.

Starts off sharp and tangy, then quickly unfolds into a finely spicy fresh floral - a wonderfully beautiful spring awakening! Bright green floods through.
