*Albho- The White Swan
Albho- is an ancient Indo-European prefix meaning “white.” For me, it conjures up mythological imagery, being the root of such words and names as “elf,” “Oberon,” “Alberich,” and the “Erl-King.” However, it is also the root of Лебедь (Lebed’), meaning “swan,” which is the inspiration for this perfume, and especially the bottle!

The perfume itself is a light, airy, and wintery. Starting out with icy mint and eucalyptus, balsamic pine and resins come through in the mid and base. A beautiful white swan flying over an icy pine forest!

Letting Feathers Fall
Albho opens with a cool, refreshing yet sweet scent that I can't quite associate with either mint or eucalyptus. After a while of pondering and stroking my imaginary beard, the thought of violet leaf comes to mind. The scent is indeed cool and refreshing, but distinctly watery and light green. Before my inner eye, I see dew (or frost) hanging on fresh leaves and in the air, subtle sweet-floral nuances. Slowly but surely, something menthol-like makes its way through the delicate green. Not bitter or spicy. Just an icy freshness. And even though these naturally have no aroma, I imagine, fitting the legendary scent description on the official homepage, ice flowers. And in my snow-covered enchanted forest, they are allowed to smell good. The perfume and its naming are based on the symbol of spirituality - the swan. But not an ordinary swan, rather a human who has taken on the form of this creature and, through meditation, finds his way back to his original shape.
The swan represents the beginning. The beginning of meditation and the beginning of the scent journey.

On my skin, the first change occurs.
The delicate, cool scent is gradually overlaid by woody aromas. At first, I perceive pine, which expresses itself rather fresh, sweet, and vaguely woody. Shortly thereafter, it becomes more aromatic. The ice flowers and the snow on the treetops of the conifers seem to melt. The sun breaks through the cloud cover and warms the bark of the conifers. In the forest, a pleasantly balsamic wood scent spreads. Balsam for the heart, soul, frozen limbs, and perhaps also for people in swan plumage. Sweet resins now join the woody aromas.
The transformation begins. The swan lets the first feathers fall. The creature disappears in a whirl of powdery-sweet amber clouds. The fog lifts, and still in a bent posture sits a stately young man. A few individual feathers replace the fig leaf.

A scent that, in my opinion, fitting to the theme, remains delicate and lovely from beginning to end, yet does not come across as thin or weak.

The scent journey also evokes exciting images that remind me of the very special atmosphere in old Russian fairy tales. Disturbingly calming?

My Dear Swan
The French-Russian perfume label SuléKó seems to be quite unknown in our regions. Overall, there is only one review of a fragrance from this brand and unfortunately nothing at all about Albho, which translates to Swan. If you take a closer look at the image of the porcelain bottle, you can see the wings as well as some abstractly depicted feathers.

On the other hand, the house perfumer Cécile Zarokian is likely to have a somewhat greater level of recognition, as she has worked for Amouage, Jovoy, Parfums MDCI, Laboratorio Olfattivo, and Jaques Fath.

She created Albho with a fine fresh mint note, which is recognizable as such but behaves relatively discreetly. The eucalyptus also remains discreet but perceptible in the background. One might think our swan is gliding through its waters on cool days.

Shortly thereafter, you can catch a whiff of the bright woodiness of cedar; pine and guaiac wood are still too shy at first to assert themselves in this already quite unobtrusive fragrance. If you wait a little while, the hesitant warmth of the guaiac wood emits a shadowy counterpoint.

Perhaps the benzoin adds a sprinkle of sweetness into the mix. When you try to dive deep into the scent, some minimal medicinal notes come to your nose. I suspect it might be the tolu balsam, but I must confess that I don't have the slightest idea of how it actually smells in its original form.

All in all, this reveals a truly noble, but as mentioned, reserved perfume, with clean fresh top notes and a clear woody base. With a bit more projection, it could quickly find new followers, but in this configuration, it could also be mistaken by some fragrance novices for a drugstore scent - the line here is not necessarily the widest.

Nevertheless, I give a thumbs up for this interesting and rare proud swan.

Cool eucalyptus is balanced by pine and cedar, it has a woody-fresh scent accompanied by spicy yet muted resins. Well done.

The scent is so ethereal and sharp that it makes your eyes water: like Tiger Balm, for those who remember it from their backpacking trips to Asia: cool!

A eucalyptus candy and a Swiss herbal sugar in my mouth, uh, in my nose. A quirky scent that captivates and repels me.

Wow, eucalyptus-mint - toothpaste, sweetened + salty + from the year snow, matte, dried out... dissolved in a liter of pine needle foam. Fascinating but I can't wear it :)
