Yet another Tuscan Leather clone

In 2007, Tom Ford released Tuscan Leather Eau de Parfum, a somewhat abrasive leather fragrance. Rather than using ingredients that tone down leather's animalic qualities, TL's sweet raspberry accentuates it and lets it shine. TL was unique at the time, but of course that was a long time ago. Nowadays we have London Eau de Parfum, Eau Rihla Eau de Parfum, Godolphin, Cuir Infrarouge, and many, many more. It seems nearly every niche house wants their own Tuscan Leather, and it is in this environment that The Harmonist releases their edition, Oud Nebula.

By its note breakdown, it may not be obvious that Oud Nebula is a Tuscan Leather clone, but one sniff tells the whole story. Despite its use of amber, rose, and other notes not usually found in this genre, the actual smell doesn't differentiate itself from the rest. It's that familiar sweet, somewhat smoky leather. Smelling this in the air it would be very easy to assume it's Tuscan Leather or one of its many offspring.

Really what more is there to say? Smelled one and you've smelled them all. It's a good DNA, but over 15 years later I am disappointed by the lack of creativity, ingenuity, and frankly pride displayed by these houses.
