a witch's hut holosuite

Forest Lungs from The Nue Company is somewhat similar to Dasein’s Winter Nights or Norne from Slumber house in its conjuring of coniferous evergreen midnight splendor. The birch tar and pine sap are present but softer, less sharp and astringent than you might expect, and as a matter of fact, I don’t get any of the camphoraceous herbal medicine chest opening that you find in the other two. It's the whiff of the woodlands in your hair or clothing after you're already back inside. It’s expediently atmospheric; you don’t have to brave the forest path to get to the witch's hut to warm your hands at the softly crackling fire and have a cozy cup of gently spiced cardamom tea. You’re just plopped right at her table, like a witch's hut holosuite. And then you find out that this person is actually not a witch at all, you've made a lot of assumptions based on their haunted cottagecore aesthetic. It's actually just a local misanthrope fed up with the dumbass yokels in the village so they gathered up their amazing candle collection and moved to a hermitage in the middle of a forest and all of a sudden they’re like," who even are you and why are you in my house?? GTFO!" And that’s when you realize this wonderful fragrance does not last long at all and the program has ended and your're back in Quark's bar and he wants his 2 strips of gold-pressed latinum.

A very soft sun-warmed forest

On opening Forest Lungs is raw wood and brash pine, but as it ages it fades back to a green, resinous and mellow sun-warmed forest floor scent. To me, it is evocative of the Danish woods, very tidy and tame but with a bit of wildness running through it. I will say, this is all for you - its sillage is practically non-existent and after 4-5 hours it's a skin scent. For days when you don't want a challenge, but want to vibe with nature and none can be found.

In the Bitter Forest!

The scent has arrived today, after a 10-day shipping time from the UK! The excitement is building, as it was a blind purchase! I am a pronounced fan of woody forest scents, as long as the name truly reflects the fragrance and does not, as has unfortunately happened often, seem to be a complete misinterpretation of the actual scent. Here, the ingredients seem to be on point.

So, here we go. Initially, a disappointment: the packaging of the bottle is neither cellophane-wrapped nor sealed in any way. Although I bought directly from the manufacturer, this is a "no-go" for me, as it always leaves the impression that it has been opened before!

The dark green bottle is, due to transport, ice-cold, but I had to spray it immediately... it would take too long for the scent to reach room temperature.

The first gentle spray reveals a truly grass-green, woody, realistic scent! Swiss pine and dark vetiver are clearly noticeable. Let's see how the perfume develops on the skin…

After a relatively short time, I notice a slight Maggi-like smell directly on the skin, which then improves after a while. In the drydown, it becomes significantly rounder and more pleasant, with even traces of cedar, benzoin, and very faintly some patchouli detectable. Unfortunately, the scent is already quite close to the skin, and the big "Aha" effect is, at least for me, absent.

Conclusion: So far, for me, the most realistic forest scent, but personally, it is a bit too bitter for me with low longevity and therefore will only be used occasionally. Perhaps soon as a room spray for the living room, where the Christmas tree is currently located…

Extraordinary Forest Walk.

When it gets dark in the autumn afternoons around half past five after rain, and the next morning damp fog looms, it becomes mistily bright, and the sun struggles to break through, it's time to take a walk in the forest. Because then the air is at its best, and all scents spread out particularly intensely.
Already at the edge of the forest, they await you, where adventureously twisted pines stand, their resinous-piney aromas prepare you for more. A bit further along the path, there are also some blue cedars, whose fine, green scents blend with the earthy fragrances of the forest floor into a hearty-bitter mélange. There, where it leads to the open clearing, the long-stemmed grasses still stand, swaying in the gentle wind, and their green-hay-like scents mix with the aromas of the forest. When the sun finally emerges completely from behind the misty veils, it smells fresh, damp, and resinous-woody.
You sit down on a bench, as it is still warm enough, and enjoy all the wonderful scents, reflecting on nature, and simply recovering from the hardships of everyday life.
You look around everywhere, and when you are ready, you simply continue into the beautiful, fragrant-sunny autumn forest afternoon, until the sun turns reddish again, and you stroll leisurely home.....filled with quiet joy :-))

Underrated Diamond

For me, this scent is one of the best smoky-resinous forest fragrances out there. I enjoy it every time I wear it.

It smells like a campfire slowly burning down in a damp Scandinavian forest, releasing oils from the fir trees that clear the airways and invite you to the sauna.

The problem with the fragrance is, I think, that the company that "invented" or sells it is more focused on cosmetic "fluff" and this scent is not really advertised or marketed well. Additionally, the price of €125 for 50 ml from a relatively unknown cosmetic brand in large parts of Europe, which should rather be in the designer price segment, is quite steep.

About 2.5 years ago, I ordered the 10 ml tester in a beautiful little glass bottle and have worn it often and happily. However, I am unsure if I will buy the fragrance again due to the high price. Nevertheless, I have found little to no good alternatives so far.

So, anyone looking for a forest scent that is not too fresh and smells like a robust sauna infusion in the woods with fire will certainly feel at home here. With this fragrance, you just want to wrap yourself in a sweater and enjoy the night in the forest.
