Strong grappa scent

Drawing similarities between this fragrance and the Vibrato/Tygar DNA is a bit of a stretch. Sure, the drydown is similar, with ambroxan and woods, but the opening and mid are VASTLY different. The "amalfi grape" that is included in the notes listing is very strong, and is significantly more bitter and alcohol-y that I was imagining. I won't say "boozy" because that word is associated with fragrances such as Angels' Share Eau de Parfum or Jazz Club for example and those fragrances are very sweet. There is very little sweetness in Rosso Pompei, and a LOT of alcohol. A dry, piercing grape note, that the reviewer directly below me compared to sangria, but I think smells more like grappa.

Grappa is a liqueur that's made from the stems, seeds, and skins of the grape - it is not juicy or sweet, more bitter, aromatic, and woody. And that's exactly what the opening to Rosso Pompei smells like. It takes a bit of getting used to; I for one am not a fan of smelling like someone spilled grappa all over me.

The drydown is a pretty basic ambroxan/floral/woody, like I mentioned before, bears some resemblance to the Vibrato/Tygar DNA. The "ambergris" here is surely just a placeholder for pure ambroxan, as there are no animalic notes to be found.

Worth a try if you are looking for a very unique freshie. The price is quite low on discounters; I was able to find it for $135. But the grappa note is pretty strong, you have been warned!
