A Head Turning—and Refreshing—Red Sangria
During a visit to Neiman Marcus in January, I stumbled upon Rosso Pompei in the luxury fragrance section as I caught a whiff of the sample. At first, I could not quite put my finger on why it seemed so familiar, but after some reflection (and buying a decant), I finally realized what it was—a red sangria.

----

The opening in the air is mostly alcohol (and possibly similar to rubbing alcohol to some), and that will turn off many people.

However, on my skin, it has a citrusy Mediterranean feel, complemented by a red wine smell that mixes an elegant booziness with a sweet and refreshing fruitiness. Combined, the opening smells like the red sangria I mentioned before. It is an exceptional opening that is not found in most fragrances.

As the fragrance dries down to the heart, the citrus fades and the wine note mixes with powdery florals, ambergris, and woods, creating a scent that combines a vineyard and coastal scent. In the base, the wine and most florals disappear, leaving a sweet woody aroma that lingers quietly.

Tiziana Terenzi fragrances are usually unisex with a feminine lean, and retail stores market Rosso Pompei more toward women. While Rosso Pompei will not appeal to people who seek a decisively masculine or feminine fragrance, the blend of masculine citrus and woods with feminine florals and a neutral wine scent makes it suitable for anyone regardless of gender.

Overall, Tiziana Terenzi's Rosso Pompei is a unique fragrance that combines a variety of scents to create a truly captivating experience. It is not overly sweet, and the overall composition is smooth.

----

The bottle design is stunning, featuring a harmonious combination of red and gold that creates a luxurious feel, fitting the fragrance's price point. The main cap design is noteworthy, taking inspiration from the Luna collection's moon phases. However, it is disappointing that the moon phase (assuming the gold moon is the bright full moon), is reversed and incorrect. That said, this potential inaccuracy does not affect the bottle's solid aesthetic appeal.

Functionally, the main cap is heavy (it weighs more than the bottle) and may be a concern for people with arthritic hands. Fortunately, a small cap (that matches the color and feel of the bottle) at the bottom of the packaging is available for people to use if this is a problem.

In terms of drawbacks, there are a couple of minor issues. First, while the atomizer sprays the scent evenly and smoothly, the range of the mist is short and requires the user to hold the bottle closer to the skin than expected. Second, the leather label used a weak adhesive that could cause its removal by a child, or perhaps via natural wear and tear.
----

Rosso Pompei boasts an impressive performance that is sure to leave an impact and will surprise anyone expecting a normally weaker citrus scent. With its potent projection, it can effortlessly fill up a small room for up to three hours and leave a long-lasting trail of scent that lingers for over 20 minutes.

The fragrance's overall longevity is remarkable, clocking in at an impressive 12 hours. However, it is important to note that one can become nose blind to the scent after a few hours of wear, while others can still smell you. Despite its steep price point of nearly $400 USD at luxury retailers like Neiman Marcus, Rosso Pompei offers a performance that is undoubtedly worth the investment.

----

With confidence, one can state that Rosso Pompei is a perfect option for spring and summer because of its citrus and floral notes. Such scents are ideal for warm weather. The wine note adds a touch of sweetness to the fragrance without being cloying, making it suitable even in hot weather.

Interestingly, the fragrance also works well in fall and winter, where it would stand out as a unique scent. While the wine note aligns well with the festive atmosphere of autumn, the citrus and floral notes may struggle to perform against the harsh winter cold compared to the wine and wood notes. Nonetheless, this should not discourage one from wearing this scent throughout the year.

Socially, one must keep in mind the strong projection and sillage of Rosso Pompei. Wearing it in an enclosed environment, such as an office or gym, may distract others. It is best to avoid using it in these environments or to apply it sparingly.

Yet, the strong sillage and projection of Rosso Pompei make it an ideal scent to receive attention, such as partying at a nightclub throughout the night. The scent is also perfect for outdoor activities, where the fresh Mediterranean vibe works in most places. In these social settings, Rosso Pompei will help you make a bold statement and leave an impression.

----

Overall, Rosso Pompei is an outstanding and unique citrus and wine fragrance that has excellent performance that should work well with most people.

Notice I said most people, as this scent is not for everyone.

The fragrance is likely to receive a negative reaction from those who are not fond of citrus or alcoholic notes, such as wine. Also, the unisex nature of the scent may disappoint those who are specifically looking for a masculine or feminine fragrance. It will annoy individuals seeking a subtle summer scent as Rosso Pompei announces itself boldly rather than staying inconspicuous. Finally, the retail price tag of almost $400 USD at a store like Neiman Marcus will scare some people off.

However, if someone seeks a luxury fragrance that is both refreshing and makes heads turn, Rosso Pompei is a fantastic option.

----

Writer's Note:

At the time of this review, people can find Rosso Pompei at trustworthy online discounters for around $150 USD. While the price may fluctuate, one can find the fragrance at a steep discount from the retail price.

Strong grappa scent
Drawing similarities between this fragrance and the Vibrato/Tygar DNA is a bit of a stretch. Sure, the drydown is similar, with ambroxan and woods, but the opening and mid are VASTLY different. The "amalfi grape" that is included in the notes listing is very strong, and is significantly more bitter and alcohol-y that I was imagining. I won't say "boozy" because that word is associated with fragrances such as Angels' Share Eau de Parfum or Jazz Club for example and those fragrances are very sweet. There is very little sweetness in Rosso Pompei, and a LOT of alcohol. A dry, piercing grape note, that the reviewer directly below me compared to sangria, but I think smells more like grappa.

Grappa is a liqueur that's made from the stems, seeds, and skins of the grape - it is not juicy or sweet, more bitter, aromatic, and woody. And that's exactly what the opening to Rosso Pompei smells like. It takes a bit of getting used to; I for one am not a fan of smelling like someone spilled grappa all over me.

The drydown is a pretty basic ambroxan/floral/woody, like I mentioned before, bears some resemblance to the Vibrato/Tygar DNA. The "ambergris" here is surely just a placeholder for pure ambroxan, as there are no animalic notes to be found.

Worth a try if you are looking for a very unique freshie. The price is quite low on discounters; I was able to find it for $135. But the grappa note is pretty strong, you have been warned!

Holy Sh*t
After getting some impressions of this scent on YouTube, I immediately secured a sample.
The promises: Fresh-fruity, unique, great longevity and sillage.
I had already experienced the "problem" with some fragrances where I let myself be too influenced by the promises and ended up feeling somewhat disillusioned, or even disappointed.
With this one, the complete opposite was supposed to happen.
Of course, I sprayed it on my arm as soon as I received it and was bombarded with a veritable explosion of fruits.
After a few minutes, this bombardment subsided and became more pleasant.
I only experienced the actual power of the fragrance during the second spray, but more on that in a moment.

Regarding the notes: As mentioned, very fruity and citrusy at the beginning (some might find it too piercing), but this quickly settles down.
I don't really perceive the heart notes (perhaps that's a good thing, as tuberose and lily of the valley tend to repel me).
After about 2-3 hours, the wood from the base notes joins in and becomes stronger over time, as does the patchouli. However, the fruitiness sets the tone throughout the entire fragrance journey.
From a scent perspective, it's a top fragrance; the fresh-fruity aspect and the uniqueness promised are definitely present.
In my opinion, it is one of the most unisex (I still miss that word in the dictionary) fragrances I have encountered so far.

Now to the performance:
On my skin, I could still smell it 10 hours after spraying, which is insane for a (albeit somewhat atypical) freshie.
At first, I felt like I had to be very close to the spray area to perceive it.
That day, my mother visited and was the first to mention the scent, even before she greeted me. That made me think for the first time: "Hmm, okay, maybe my nose got used to it too quickly.
Since she liked it very much, I let her spray it the next day when we strolled through the city.
Her reaction the day before made me think, but I could never have imagined that the scent would hit me so hard.
It projected easily 8 meters in all directions, but definitely not in an unpleasant "too much applied" way. In the sillage, the scent doesn't even differ much from what you perceive directly on the skin.
This was the case for about the first 3-4 hours; after that, it becomes more intimate but still remains present.
Mind you: The weather that day was moderate to cool at 12°C, and since the scent actually feels very spring-like to summery, I can't say what happens at higher temperatures. Maybe I'll test it next summer, although I somehow have a bit of "fear" about it. The promise of great longevity and sillage was more than fulfilled.

In summary:

In my opinion, one of the best fragrances I have ever smelled.
Anyone who enjoys fruity-fresh scents MUST try this one.
Due to its outstanding performance and somewhat overwhelming sillage, please use it sparingly and probably not in too hot temperatures.
The price is, of course, steep, and since it is more of a spring/summer scent, I don't know how one is supposed to empty a 100ml bottle in the foreseeable future, so definitely get a decant first before considering buying a full bottle.
I hope my review has made this scent appealing to a few people.
In my opinion, it is definitely a "Must-Try."

The Uncharacteristic Freshie for Me
I had been looking for something fruity that smells delicious and is suitable for warm temperatures for a while. But none of those "typical" freshies are it.

I tried quite a few, Kirke, Erba Pura, Burlington, Tygar... just to name a few, but none of them ever really convinced me.
By chance, I stumbled upon Rosso Pompei and was eager to test it.

Now I hold it in my hands (the bottle is very sturdy, by the way... I could verify this during an unplanned drop test) :D

The cap is heavier than the bottle itself, and while the red doesn’t match the scent, it looks very good. The label on the front is made of leather; I am quite impressed with this presentation. Very high quality.

The scent:

After the first spray, I initially perceive a bit of grape, not particularly synthetic grape, rather just something fruity sweet. But the grapefruit quickly joins in, sour/bitter yet also fruity sweet, thanks to the two grapefruit varieties mentioned in the fragrance pyramid. Very zesty, refreshing, slightly bitter, and really delicious. That’s how I would describe the opening.

The grape plays only a small role; the main players in the opening regarding fruits are clearly the grapefruit and lemon, with green and floral notes in the background.

The bitter fruitiness of the perfume is my absolute favorite in the top note :) really great.
One can recognize similarities to scents like Burlington 1819 and "Le Gemme - Tygar | Bvlgari," although I believe it is closer to Tygar.

As it develops, it becomes woodier and also more floral, but personally, I don’t smell any of the flowers distinctly; in my opinion, they serve more to round off the woody notes and create a softer overall image. It harmonizes very well with the freshness and sweetness of the fruits. It is a very dense fragrance experience, not airy, but dense and intense.
And always present is this slight fruity bitter note that I like so much.
The late drydown loses some of its refreshing effect; it becomes warmer, softer, less woody, and remains fruity with an even more pronounced sweetness. In this later phase, it aligns more with scents like "Erba Pura | XerJoff," which has a similar drydown, for example.
Overall, a very nice progression that I enjoyed from start to finish.

Performance:

Even after showering, I could still smell it on my wrist.

The performance is clearly above average; it projects really well, the scent is very intense, and will certainly be well perceived.

I also think it should please most who smell it. And it will surely garner a compliment or two.

It is a perfume that one could really wear every day, in summer or winter, it doesn’t matter.

A simple scent, not very challenging for the wearer or those nearby, but really wonderfully executed.

Unisex, with a possibly very slight tendency towards the masculine, but absolutely unrestrictedly wearable for women as well.
It smells somehow grown-up, but also very modern.

For me, with Rosso Pompei, the search for a fruity delicious summer scent has "temporarily" come to an end :D
I am very satisfied and can finally wear something new for myself in the summer :)

Although I should mention in conclusion that Tygar and Burlington, for example, are both also truly excellent scents that serve the same purpose.
Erba Pura and Kirke are also loved by many and go in a similar direction.

Ultimately ;)

it’s simply a matter of personal taste which will be your favorite. So test and try before you order scents ;)

A really good release from Tiziana Terenzi.

I will continue to compare it and possibly update the review.

Thank you for reading.

Best regards, Deniz

The Sparkling Homebrew Refreshment for All Occasions
I still remember well when I received a sample of this fragrance.
I sprayed Rosso Pompei on my wrist for the first time and was a bit skeptical at first..... a initially biting scent, wrapped in a sparkling-sour framework, that screams for attention.
Well, I thought, the fragrance has something about it that I haven't smelled before, and that's really exciting.
During the second test, I knew what to expect in the opening and was prepared. The scent seemed much more complex to me, especially the grapefruit and the grape were very identifiable, and it was particularly the grape that made this fragrance so special for me in the opening. The scent felt like a sparkling, yet not too sweet, refreshing drink that I couldn't get enough of. The combination with the woody notes likely ensures that the fragrance remains somewhat dry and slightly sour, which I really like.
With this fragrance, I imagine sitting on the veranda of a great wine bar in Italy on a beautiful, sunny day with a view of the sea. In this wine bar, they have created a kind of "lemonade," known among connoisseurs as "homebrew," made with fresh, hand-picked Sicilian grapefruits and Amalfi grapes. The drink is enhanced, in addition to the fresh fruit and sparkling water from the nearby spring, with a dash of salt to give the composition a bit more sparkle.... the rest is, according to the owner's response, a secret.
Since I now own a full bottle, I don't want to be without it anymore. I wear the fragrance for almost all occasions and seasons, except maybe in the depths of winter. Whether in my free time with colleagues, shopping, dining out, or even in the office..... it is well-received everywhere. It is also the only fragrance in my collection that I've been approached about multiple times, and I find that somehow nice.
The bottle, with its red color and the golden, solid cap with beautiful embellishments, is a real gem.
The longevity & sillage of this fragrance are absolutely top-notch, which I also expect from a fragrance in this price range.

I look forward to wearing this fragrance until the end of autumn and will be visibly happy after the coming winter when I can return to that Italian wine bar with this wonderful and unique "homebrew lemonade"!

Lovely bright, fresh scent w/ one of the most attractive Grape notes. Pleasant, versatile, would buy it but need to try Tuttle first as well.

Extremely reminiscent of Turathi Blue/Tygar, but ever so slightly denser/deeper and more natural smelling. Not a worthy upgrade for the cost

Tiger-inspired citrus floral with warm woody drydown. Smooth evolution, solid performer, but lacks originality for the price.

The first 5 minutes with the grapefruit opening are incredibly beautiful. Then unfortunately it quickly turns into that familiar musky hairspray DNA.

I thought "Erba Pura" was the ultimate fragrance, but I was mistaken. Fermented citrus with a sharp, unpleasant note. Washing it off doesn't help.

Unmistakable Kirke DNA, instead of dominant passion fruit, there's grapefruit (synthetic).
The fizzy note makes an appearance here too.
I don't like it.
