When opposites meet
I must say that I was a little hesitant at first to order this perfume as a blind buy because the combination of orange blossom and smoke is not usual and especially not particularly appealing on paper. I must say, however, that the execution is good and well balanced. The orange blossom is very preponderant, especially at the beginning and is of the most heady, floral and not too sweet quality, rather natural and with few concessions to neroli (an enticing combination of characteristics), but little by little incense begins to creep in, always present, but in the background, a non-intrusive participation. This note often loads and makes the perfume heavier, whereas, in this case, it succeeds in imparting airiness and lightening the flower using a shade of incense à la Cardinal.

Deep Friendship with Time
It’s strange with the scents from Dries van Noten. It’s never love at first sniff; on the contrary, my first thought is often clear reference.

However - when I give the fragrances time, real love develops. I experienced the same with Neon Garden; I didn’t know for a long time whether I liked it or not, but ultimately it became my most used fragrance of this summer, even though I had previously thought more about Imagination or Afternoon Swim from Vuitton. With Orange Smoke, it was the same for me again. I had a sample and was initially quite underwhelmed. But the more I tried it, the more I liked it. My first and also lasting association is this English orange marmalade, which has a bit of bitterness, but I really like it as a scent. For an Eau, it lasts quite long; the bottle also contains 200ml, while the first wave of the new fragrances has 100ml - at about the same price. I am very curious to see how it will come across when it gets colder. It is, on one hand, familiar, and on the other hand, so minimally disturbing that I find the scent interesting. I suspect the Petitgrain here, which often feels like a little kick in the spine, maybe Opoponax (I generally find names with Popo interesting) because I don’t know how that smells, but it could also be this resinous note. In the meantime, it actually suits me all the time; I also like to wear it at home, and it still has a touch of mystery within a very familiar and beautiful orange.

I was initially sad because I can’t test the fragrances anywhere in the shop around the corner - on the other hand, that wouldn’t help me with the brand, based on what I’ve experienced so far. I would have always dismissed it, and I would have missed out on something. I find these fragrances very avant-garde; for those who are into overtly beautiful and compliment-seeking scents: definitely not the target audience. More like fragrances for people who chat all night with someone at a party whom you didn’t expect anything from because it’s inspiring.

Last but not least: I find the bottle (especially in 200ml) sensationally beautiful, even better than the 100ml bottle. It will probably not be the last one.

It smells like sunscreen in the best way. One of my favorite hot summer fragrances.

Floral, soapy, effervescent orange blossom. A little weird.

A well-balanced perfume where heady orange blossom dominates at first, gradually complemented by a subtle, airy incense that complements it.

great dusty orange. well executed, more crowd pleasing and traditional than some of their other stuff

The incense is very prominent on me and blends with a fresh orange note, both fruity and soapy floral. Beautiful!

Neroli is very prominent. No other note really stands out. I expected something different with "Smoke."

The 4711 Neroli attack startles me. Then it turns into a musky clean white floral scent. Frankincense hides away. Just nice.

Actually just neroli & dull fruity notes. (Christmas) smoke I can barely sense. I imagined the scent to be much more energetic.

Oh no, first this 4711 vibe and then a lukewarm jasmine-musk breeze that doesn’t really chase away the neroli.
