Musky, sherberty bergamot and lavender
Tove applies to my skin as a musky, sherberty bergamot. As this dies down over the next couple of minutes a peppery lavender comes forward. I get only a little , but noticeable, base with some creamy wood.

There is a warmth about it that is surprising considering it a bergamot and lavender dominent scent, both of which on their own I find crisp and cool.

My bottle is one of the, not so popular, QVC offerings. I think it has improved in the bottle over the last few years, smelling a little more 'held together'. I like to wear this in the autumn as the fragrance goes so well with fluffy woolen sweaters.

It lasts at a reasonable strength for around two hours on me gradually becoming a moderate strength background scent that lasts for most of the day.

Full bottle around 2010 to 2012 give or take.

So close to the perfect musk scent!
In search of the perfect musk scent Part 25

Basically, I could reopen this series because the two musk fragrances that once made it to the top of my ranking ("Musc Bleu Absolu" and "Iris & White Musk" by Jo Malone) have long been dethroned by me, the moody queen... But I really don't need to search anymore, because here is one that comes very, very close to perfection. I discovered this fragrance here and thought about it for a while, as I only knew Tova Signature Platinum until then, which I found far too soapy at the time. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I had to make another blind purchase. And I do not regret it!

Tova Signature also starts off a bit soapy, but not nearly as strongly as Platinum, at least in my somewhat faded memory. For the first half hour, I don't find the scent that impressive, but then it becomes more beautiful and powdery and lasts quite a long time! From the heart note and especially in the base, it comes very close to my perfect musk scent!

Tova Signature is clean and bright, the musk is white, and the scent is delicately powdery and unobtrusive. You don't leave a scent trail behind; the fragrance stays rather close to you. This way, a woman always feels well-groomed and pleasantly scented. I like to wear it when I don't feel like anything else, not something strong, not sweet, not experimental. When I just want to smell nice.

Due to its slightly oily consistency, it spreads beautifully on the body and merges perfectly over time with body heat and one's own skin scent. It then feels as if you haven't sprayed on a "foreign scent," meaning a perfume, but as if this lovely fragrance belongs to you. The only downside is that I can hardly perceive it myself after wearing it for a few days in a row. And yet: Whenever I think I can't smell it anymore, this lovely musk aura suddenly wafts around me again.

Conclusion: A beautifully soft clean musk scent that is always appropriate, never annoying, and fits perfectly from doctor visits to the office to cuddling on the couch.

I am updating my personal musk fragrance ranking as follows: Place 1: Tova Signature and right behind it Essence Eau de Musc, which always manages to push forward. I tend to use that one more in spring/summer due to its freshness. I find Tova Signature warmer and thus suitable for year-round wear.

Simply: Racine
The American actress Morgan Fairchild - known for her role as the cunning Constance Weldon Carlyle in 'Flamingo Road' - played in the mid-80s in the then-new prime time soap 'Karussell der Puppen' - in the original: 'Paper Dolls' - the scheming model agency head Racine (no last name, when asked about it, the response was cool: 'Simply: Racine'). Following in the wake of predecessors like Dynasty, Dallas, or Falcon Crest, the series, which revolved around power and influence in the fashion and advertising scene in Manhattan, unfortunately could not establish itself and was canceled after just one season. By the way, back then, they also still said 'Mannequin'.

Morgan Fairchild embodies more than anyone else - well, perhaps except for Linda Evans and Donna Mills - the look and face of the 80s - and the (style) era of Ronald Reagan. Fuchsia lipstick and fly-like blue eyeshadow were worn this side of the Atlantic as well, but her style and whole attitude seemed, at least from the perspective of that time in Germany, where the maximum of glamour in the 80s was the 'Traumschiff' and the 'Schwarzwaldklinik', incredibly 'New York City' and wildly cosmopolitan and sophisticated. Racine was even in the bathtub (where she drank champagne or talked on the phone) multi-colored made up, she wore coral silk blouses with shoulder pads and flowing sable furs on the way from the door to the taxi and teased hair and shimmering cocktail dresses for dinner.

This world of the 80s - which I sometimes miss, although I am actually too young to really remember it - can still be found in a variety of mainly American perfumes, such as those from Estée Lauder or Elizabeth Arden. These scents tell of a time when there was nothing more awe-inspiring than when the waiter brought a tray with a phone to the table and said: 'You are urgently needed, Mr. Director.' What characterizes the perfumes of those years is often, alongside a more or less subtle soapiness - which one can find terrible or beautiful - a completely different interpretation of 'sweet'. Sweet scents of the 80s are rarely girlishly cheeky, but opulently and florally arranged - as they are mostly floral chypres - and not gourmands.

Signature, the - actual or perceived - scent signature of the Norwegian-American businesswoman Tova Borgnine, a kind of stalwart of teleshopping - of whom I was surprised to read recently that she is actually only seventy-five - authentically reports from those years. It doesn't make much fuss about its top note but focuses immediately on its powdery, intoxicating floral heart and its dramatic, almost theatrical musk base, which is much more that of a lady than 'just' a woman. Just like Morgan Fairchild as Racine lounges in a half-open, cherry-red silk robe in front of the flickering fireplace on a fur blanket, while she cat-like asks: 'Wesley, darling - will you now transfer your voting rights to me?'

Conclusion: a scent to daydream into the glamorous (series) world of the 80s. And for all those who were hoping for a comment here using the French poet Jean Racine (from whom Racine likely drew her name inspiration) - perhaps next time!

Fine things from television!
I have already outed myself as a shopping channel customer and yes, also a fan, and my special preference is for QVC. For example, we sleep in cotton-cloud-soft microfiber luxury flannel bedding, and the whole family is thrilled. I also use the brilliant skincare line from Elizabeth Grant. The fantastic eye pads, for instance, make wrinkles under the eyes disappear for hours, I swear! Well, of course, shopping channel customers are often ridiculed and the presenters mocked, but the guys and gals there are just doing their job, and they do it well. Now to the fragrance: My comment is about the Signature classic by Tova Borgnine, wife of Ernest Borgnine (who passed away in July 2012), Ernest, not Tova ;-). Tova is an elegant lady of 71 years and a (Norwegian immigrant) style icon and creator of fragrances for stars. Signature is one of Barbra Streisand's favorite scents.
Signature was launched in 1983, and Tova managed to win a Fifi Award for it; it is also in the New York Hall of Fame of Fragrances alongside Chanel No 5 and other highly decorated classics.
I have it in a beautiful rounded bottle made of Baccarat crystal (so not as plain as the one pictured above), a special anniversary edition.
Of course, I struggled with myself: Should I buy it? Should I let it go? Do they promise too much? Well, I can always send it back if necessary!
It was a wonderful surprise because the scent is a dream! You won't find this at D.. and Co. My friend was over for coffee today and asked about the wonderful scent I was wearing.
Signature starts off lemony-citrusy, but so exquisite that I can't detect any overly sour cleanliness note. Then comes a Tuscan lavender field, which bravely carries through to the base note. However, it's not grandma's ancient lavender. It's fine lavender, swaying in the Mediterranean breeze.
Tova said in the presentation: "This fragrance will not overwhelm you, but it will envelop you..." She wasn't lying!
Actually, sandalwood only plays a supporting role, and musk provides a, well, animalistic creaminess, but the main role is given to the lavender and a dreamy night jasmine.
Magena has described the Platinum; my comment is about the original.
Dare to order it. I have already smelled Bond's, which were... well, and cost ten times as much!

Tova.....from retirement scent to powder scent...what a transformation...wow
Today I was in a second-hand store that also sells many items from older people :) From clear-outs, etc.! What can I say, I really enjoy this kind of thing :) I find it somehow nice to know that these items, which were once very important to someone, are not just thrown away. I always find things that remind me of my childhood and my grandma :)

And there it was...the Tova...The Tova autumn and Tova Platinum and the Tova Signature...Someone must have stocked up on some QVC fragrances and now they were looking for a new home. Mine :) I had already heard about the Tova Signature fragrance from my friend! It was supposed to smell powdery and like Nivea or Dove. I had already considered ordering it since it is only available through teleshopping. But now I could actually test it! So I sprayed it directly on my wrist! The Tova autumn on the left and then the Tova on the right...

I had high expectations...just not that...at first, a really terrible old scent from past generations came around the corner.. That was not to my taste at all...A scent that my grandma would surely have loved...I was so shocked...Was this supposed to be the great Tova my friend had talked about?! I could hardly believe it, so I left everything and disappeared into the toy department...just get away, I thought! Then I left the store totally confused and went shopping at Penny! I was really embarrassed :D I smelled so strongly of retirement scent...as if I had used my grandma's perfume...at least that's what I thought..

But then I noticed the first glance from a handsome guy...I thought he must be surprised by my smell ;) but he kept looking and gave me a smile :) I guess it didn't bother him :) Well then...I stowed my purchases in the car and wanted to quickly go home and wash it off...

Then suddenly, it smelled so good! Really powdery and clean! Like Nivea with baby powder or something! Many describe fragrances as creamy, powdery, clean...but this scent is truly!!!!!! The first one that smells so powdery! More so than Trussardi My Name! And not like the Narciso Rodriguez fragrances...but in that direction...only really powdery, creamy, and clean! :D
When I got home, I had to wash it off as planned...my boyfriend shouldn't find out that I had tested perfumes again! He says I already have too many and enough, and it's slowly becoming a pathological issue :D And I didn't want him to catch me with a scent that I could have gotten from a very old and wealthy lady...that would be the icing on the cake...A proof of my addiction :D so I scrubbed as hard as I could...it wouldn't come off...but suddenly it smelled even creamier...then my boyfriend came in and, contrary to my expectations, he asked what I smelled like...it smelled so good...uhm yeah...caught...I bought "a" new perfume ;-D But he thought it was great......Although he is against me having even more perfumes...it doesn't smell like I thought?! The inherent scent of an older wealthy lady fades and then only the powder-cream scent remains! It still smells on my wrist today...even though I wash my hands constantly! My jacket still smells really strongly of it too! And luckily only of cream-powder :) no more hint of that old-lady scent to be sensed!

The best powder scent!

What a transformation...

Today I thought, 'how nice, bergamot and lime, I'll write a review'. Seems I already have so I conclude I consistently like Tova Signature.

I tested it 20 years ago. I found it very heavy, yet creamy and soapy.
American, too overwhelming for my nose back then anyway.

Clean, powdery, creamy, and soft like delicate baby skin. Nivea in a spray. I'm enveloped in feelings of comfort.

For me, an extremely soapy scent, initially almost too heavy; it becomes milder and more pleasant over time, unfortunately no trace of powder -> skin chemistry

Soothing feel-good balm. Softly scented lavender meets musky clouds.

Starts with lavender-citrus, but suddenly it just smells good, blue cream - a bit more powdery than creamy and always fresh.
