Better than expected

The title already gives it away, but over time I have come to appreciate Valentino Uomo (2014) Eau de Toilette more and more. At first, however, I wasn't so sure about it. To give you some context: before the Uomo EDT, I already had the Valentino Uomo Intense in my collection, which was (and to a certain extent still is) a little more difficult for me. This is due to its very present powderiness, which is just a little too over the top for me, depending on my mood on the day. I really have to be in the mood for it. And although I was able to find out a lot of positive things about Uomo EDT in advance, there was still some residual scepticism about the powderiness that I feared. However, this gradually disappeared with each time I wore it.
How did it manage that? Well, this fragrance is also powdery, but on the one hand it seems more restrained to me, and on the other hand it is more harmoniously interwoven with the rest of the olfactory bouquet. And last but not least, it recedes more from the fragrance over time. After spraying it on, in addition to the powdery component, my nose also detects a pleasant, not too overdrawn sweetness, accompanied by a fresh component. The latter is due to the bergamot, which I only perceive in a moderately differentiated way, however, as it tends to blend in with the other accords. Shortly after the opening, a flattering creaminess joins in, which seems to take on the role of powderiness as the fragrance progresses. In any case, this slightly "cosmetic" note, which is often associated with powderiness, disappears. I can also understand the association of some people here with a sweet dessert, but I could not classify the fragrance more precisely in this respect (e.g. "Zott Monte").
What struck me and what I would like to compare analogously with sounds/audible frequencies: If the Uomo EDT were a frequency span, it would bring the so-called "loudness effect" with it: Present highs (corresponding to the freshness and sweetness of the fragrance) and present lows (the "dark" aspects of the fragrance - coffee, leather, wood). In between, there are slightly defensive mids that try not to tear up the sound (for me, the creamy accord does this job within the fragrance composition). Please excuse this brief excursion into high-fidelity realms (music is another long-standing hobby of mine). But perhaps one or the other can understand me.
In the drydown, the fragrance brings a subtle chocolateiness and beautiful nuttiness into play, but more of light nuts (macadamia, cashew, almond).
Overall, I associate Valentino Uomo (2014) Eau de Toilette with coziness, comfort, a light touch of luxury and relaxation. It knows how to flatter, but is not too arbitrary, it has enough character of its own. It would therefore not be a blind buy for me. With its profile, I feel that Uomo EDT is predestined for spring, fall and a mild winter. That's when it seems at its best.
A few words about the performance of the fragrance. I think it is decent for the price. Even after four hours, I can still catch a whiff now and again. The sillage doesn't fill a room, but should be noticeable in your vicinity. Definitely not a strong fragrance, let alone beast fashion. But I would also find that rather inappropriate given its dignified character. You want to flatter much more than "occupy" or run over.
The bottle design with its iconic studs is typical Valentino. Love it or hate it. I like it, it stands out somewhat from the broad designer masses.
