A molecule for an acquired taste

This is my favorite Molecule. This Cashmeran is ethereal, it keeps fading and re-appearing, but doesn't leave for a long time. And there is a faint petrichor note and something almost floral... Like a really fancy mildew. Gorgeous.

If it smells bad to you - then it might not work with your skin; try other molecules instead.

So strange

I'm usually not a big fan of synthetic/molecular fragrances. Still, I consider it an art form like any other. But actually I have to say I don't like this one.

It has many facets that come and go. Pungent citrus in the opening, relatively pleasant wood in the middle and dirt at the end. This image I pass is really something strange to me. The mystery is that there's nothing overtly irritating about the fragrance (except the finish, which is one to run away from). Instead, the discomfort I feel with this one is like the feeling of being watched and looking around and seeing that you're alone.

I imagine that all these facets are the sensations that the molecule gives in the nose. Not the smell, which is pretty light, but the actual feel in the nose, it feels like a tickle or scratch all the way to my brain. It is not for me.

Challenging the Mold - or Southern Sweden's Summery Pine Coast

When Molecule 05 was announced, I immediately took note of it. Molecule 01, which almost every fragrance enthusiast still stumbles upon, had captivated me, and it still does to some extent today (even though I often prefer wearing perfumes that cannot be classified as mono-molecular scents, not even Geza Schön does that). So I hoped that the new release could similarly enchant me, even though the entire rest of the Escentric and Molecule line left me quite indifferent. At that time, I hadn't heard much about Cashmeran; today, that has changed, and I recognize it in various fragrances, but I find that it unfolds quite differently as a standalone. I tested Molecule 5 in spring/summer and was immediately thrilled.
I smelled bright, sunlit, dry wood, the ethereal scent that emerges from it is that of dried and fermented blackberries, as well as sand and an airy musk note, which, however, is free of sweat. It also feels fresh, but more from an eucalyptus direction than from a minty one. Less as a scent, but more as an impression created by the fragrance, I can perceive the pleasant tingling that Molecule 5 evokes in me.
So: a wonderful, summery feel-good fragrance.

I did not buy Molecule 05 because the sillage was far too low for me.

During my vacation in southern Sweden in the summer of 2020, where we camped by the coast, I often thought of this scent. The pine forest stretched up to the dunes, the forest floor was sand covered by a moss carpet and blueberries. The temperatures were quite Mediterranean-worthy. It smelled exactly like that.
When I test Molecule 5 on rainy, cold days, I perceive other things. Now, the Cashmeran still smells piney, but also of damp earth, wet moss, decayed wood, forest mushrooms, fog, and overall more woodsy. I can certainly understand the mold image, but I believe there is also a kind of snowball effect in this regard. What I mean is that the more people write about mold, the more they associate this scent with it. This motivated me to give Molecule 5 some backing with this comment, so to speak, to challenge the mold.

Fun fact: by now, this scent vaguely reminds me of Nasomatto's Duro - just synthetic & much lighter, more transparent.

Very agreeable!

I perceived Molecule 01 as a small masterpiece, even though it contains only a single ingredient: ISO E Super. Unfortunately, many people cannot perceive it due to anosmia, but luckily I am not one of them and enjoy this wonderfully woody, slightly sweet, and clear aroma.

The successors in the Molecule series by Geza Schön didn't appeal to me as much, but when I learned about Molecule 05 and its ingredient Cashmeran, I once again had that sparkle in my eyes and in my nose!

Cashmeran is a fully synthetic substance that does not occur in nature. Developed in the 1970s and produced by IFF. Woody, musky, slightly sweet, and fresh are probably the attributes that best describe this fragrance. There is no comparable other scent, and whether one likes it must be discovered by each individual; I, for one, love it!

Unfortunately, there are new IFRA regulations regarding the allowed amount of certain fragrance substances, and unfortunately, Cashmeran is also affected, now only allowed to make up 3.8% of the total amount of a perfume. Even though one can assume that some ISO E Super has also been blended into Molecule 05, at least I cannot identify any other fragrance substances here. I would be very interested to know how the perfumer Geza Schön could have accomplished this…

Conclusion: A great fragrance that can be worn on all occasions and is absolutely unisex!

Mold Scent

Molecule 01 is my heart's fragrance....today I tested Molecule 05 with great anticipation and I am appalled. Even when spraying, a piercing smell of mold spreads in the bathroom. It then stubbornly lingers. Is Mr. Schön serious about this?
