The training wheels for L'Heure Bleue

Right out of the bottle I get (literally) creamy iris. At the end of its long wear I get (figuratively) sugary, creamy iris. That’s it. Is it necessary that you love iris to love this? It might be a requisite. If you are iris-averse then don’t even bother with this. If you’re looking to explore iris this is as good a place to start. I’d even say this is a good gateway into more complex scents like L’Heure Bleue—not that I’m even suggesting they are of the same ilk. However, if L’Heure Bleue is a kaleidoscope of blues and violets then Periwinkle & Iris is a marker of powder blue hue.

A question was posed, “Who are the basic b*ches in your collection?” I hadn’t thought much about it. I hadn’t even offered a reply. But I knew right away, as I was swooping in to grab a second gift set of Periwinkle & Iris, who she was. Periwinkle & Iris offers nothing groundbreaking. The earth does not tremble when I spray this. But damn, I smell good! And isn’t that all we require from these basic, ahem, ladies in our collection?

Gray, the 3rd.

And again: Gray.
Clouds, fog, rain.
Even the green of the trees seems overshadowed by gray.
The birds' chirping sounds dull.
The scent of the flowers smells pale, hazy.
The colors of the world run out, blur, dilute, leaving only a diffuse grayish something.

A glance out the window reveals sunshine and the most wonderful spring weather with vibrant colors, busy bees and birds, a whole concert of awakening nature.

What a paradox to the window inward.

There are such days.
Dreary, sad, profound.
With a heavy gray blanket. So heavy.

Sometimes it is possible to lift this blanket a little. Even if it's with a fragrance. Like Vera Wang's Embrace Periwinkle and Iris. It can lift a corner of the gray blanket with its initially unobtrusive lovely freshness of bergamot and mandarin. It brings a bit of lightness and lessens the burden a little.
And then it gently offers: Look, I also have a blanket here, not gray, but also not bright. Soft light blue, cuddly soft, yet light and delicate. With a lot of powderiness from the iris that envelops and protects against the gray eminence. The blue jasmine also lifts the other corner of the leaden gray blanket with surprising lightness.
And suddenly a swap has taken place, the gray blanket has been pushed aside, not completely, but enough that a light blue cloud floats around the shoulders, a cotton-soft armor against gray attacks. With a hint of vanilla sweetness, not too strong, not too sticky, and certainly not dominant, yet sufficient against the bitter taste that has remained from the concrete gray.

And while outside the cheerful spring inferno trills, a delicate lightness in light blue spreads inside, carrying through the day, always subtly in the background, but caring and long-lasting.
And the gray blanket rolls up sulkily.

If I had sniffed the bottle..

I would have never bought it. Too exhausting, loud, and flashy. I would have been sure that I remembered the wrong name. But a copy-paste can't lie. So on it goes!
And what can I say:
After a brief floral attack, there’s a turn and it remains powdery-creamy cotton candy.. in a delicate, slightly warm, pleasant way.
I love it. I thought cotton candy would never find its way to me.

a sweet embrace in blue

The scents of the Vera Wang "Embrace" series are already distinguished by the delicate colors that shimmer from the classic, almost simple flacons.
Rosé for "Rosebud and Vanilla," soft green for "Green Tea and Pear Blossom," and this time a beautiful light blue for "Periwinkle and Iris."
I find this corresponds to the delicate femininity of the content.

The "blue scent" opens with a pleasantly fresh note before the violet makes its presence known - the first fragrant blue. All three blend surprisingly well together.
Iris and blue jasmine bring an astonishing fullness of scent; with blue jasmine taking the lead. It overshadows the iris but harmonizes well with the periwinkle.
So far, in my opinion, it is quite an unusual scent combination. It piques curiosity about what is to come.
The sweetness of the base note is a bit too much for me. It initially overshadows my rather positive impression of "Periwinkle and Iris."
It also takes some time for the floral notes to recover from the intensity of the sweetness and eventually engage in a fair competition with it.

This scent is a little too sweet for me, and I am not unhappy about its only average longevity on my skin.
Yesterday, I tried "Periwinkle and Iris" on my skin at dm. Today, it has changed very pleasantly on the scent strip.
This shows that my skin may not be the right scent carrier for it.

After "Embrace - Green Tea & Pear Blossom," this is only the second scent from Vera Wang that I tried out of curiosity.
I was surprisingly fond of the "Green Tea"; this "blue blend" is not quite to my liking.

However, I can well imagine that the right, perhaps younger woman can be happy with "Embrace - Periwinkle and Iris." It is distinctly feminine.
The scent is not very demanding, but easy to wear. Especially all the "sweet tooth" individuals could satisfy their sugar cravings this way, without a significant calorie intake.
