Violent violets
If you think like me that violets are the best scent in the universe, April Violets is surely worth considering. I have had a bottle of this with me since I was a teenager. I get true violet flowers and little else. I hate lily of the valley, and do not smell it in this. I get a true, violent, cosseting, delicate, strong and long lasting violet soliflore. I spray in on my pillow at bed time. A treasure by Yardley for a very modest price.

The postman was out in short sleeves today
In January and although we had black ice just three days ago. This afternoon, the outdoor thermometer showed more than 20°C.

In anticipation of the eagerly awaited spring, I reached for April Violets, which I had recently come across during a tidying-up session.
I love violet scents, especially the enchanting La Violette by Goutal or the eccentric Insolence by Guerlain.
But Yardley has also created a very beautiful, powdery, delicately lilac Eau de Toilette with April Violets, which captivates with its feather-light, historical charm.

When I spray it, the scent of violet rushes towards me, which, at a distance, feels very authentic, like the natural aroma of these pretty little flowers in a sun-warmed forest clearing.
Directly on the skin, the first impression, at least for me, is not quite as pleasant; it initially smells oddly musty and slightly synthetic, which I can change by keeping the sprayed arm about 20 cm from my nose. Then everything is fine. Which of the included fragrance components is responsible for this impression remains a mystery to me.
After about half an hour, the mustiness disappears and the scent becomes skin-friendly.
The violet remains, albeit quite weakly, and develops little sweetness in my perception. I do not perceive any other flowers. However, it becomes increasingly powdery, almost pastel-like, and evokes images in me of nostalgic dressing rooms with lace-trimmed corsets, voluminous crinolines, and teased powdered wigs with curly locks.
In spring or summer, it might appear even more beautiful and intense than it does now on rather cool winter skin.

Strange that the reviews are so good, yet the scent has not been mentioned in any comment.
For me, today was a very lovely experience of spring anticipation, and to anyone who finds La Violette too dry-green or Insolence too loud, I can only recommend the subtle April Violets as a good and very attractively priced alternative.

As a perfume this doesn't work on me at all; as a room spray it fills the house with the smell of pure sweet parma violet cachous..

If the violet didn't have that musty-artificial undertone, it would be a lovely scent. Musk and vanilla don't quite fit either.

Nostalgic-friendly violet, subtly sweet and rounded. Longevity is quite good. Significantly more pleasant than the fussy violet from Parma.

Lovely, delicate spring scent! Quite powdery, fine woods are well placed. Relaxing fragrance with a hint of violet. Slightly woody, GOOD!

Violet candies with a vanilla coating. Unfortunately, there's a slightly off-putting plastic note at first. Light spring scent.
