Applesauce
When we still lived in the Czech Republic (until I was 14), we pickled and cooked a lot ourselves for the winter. This ranged from homemade sauerkraut to pickled cucumbers and rum plums. Pears, home-made raspberry syrup and substitute honey made from sugar beets up to - of course - applesauce.

That's exactly what I have to think about when doing the monodie tests. There is still something artificial in this applesauce, which - if it were stronger - would come through very penetratingly. Luckily it's not very strong and so bearable. This sweet fruit puree smell remains and absolutely nothing changes during the drydown.

I don't know how much these scents cost, but in this case I would prefer a jar of applesauce for 99 cents.

Rapid course happiness
The bottle seems to me a sprite, big head, stocky and funny. This fresh and joyful fragrance fits well to the bottle. At the beginning it surprises me with a fake lemon whiff. You know that it is not lemon, but can not find out, what is it. (Actually grapefruit.)

After a fast transition mandarin is the next on duty to keep you beany. Cyclamen, freesia, rose are subdued under a waxy odor, but it is not bothersome, rather harmonic. Unfortunately I can not enjoy long the fresh and waxy flowers, the perfume disappears after few hours.

When the sample was first opened, the impression was blue-green, rhubarb-cyclamen-plum. After testing I believe only the half of the note list, not that half, that I was longing for, but surprisingly nice – I mean, I usually do not like citrus fragrances. My rate would be better with longer endurance.

At the Bottom of Reality...
…there's simply too little sparkle.

Well, it might not be original to start a comment with such a saying that you can occasionally find on postcards. And it's a bit clichéd, like "I kiss better than I cook." But two things cannot be denied. Sometimes, when you read it, you have to at least smile a little. And yes, that's true! The bottom of reality is sometimes so horrifically gray and sparkles far too little.

Now, I'm not the type who needs a lot of colors. I don't have a favorite color, since black unfortunately isn't a color. That's how it is. But on some days, I too need a pretty dress with flowers. Or at least color in perfume form. And then please make it proper, with sparkle.

Those are the days when, if you go out with friends, you don't sip wine stylishly in a trendy location, but rather enjoy squeaky cocktails at a beach bar - which means: actually too sweet and with colors that couldn't be more vibrant, but just fun - and then take off your high heels to dance in the sand. Regardless of the fact that you’re still wearing a blouse or a fitted dress.

Those are the days when, as a niche perfume lover, you need Monodie. Because Monodie is just fun. It's zesty, fresh, cheerful, fruity, life-affirming, and much more. And somehow also pretty much everything that isn't typically niche. Not cerebral, nor super demanding. Not a scent you can debate about. One you want to wear, one you have to showcase.

A champagne fruit cocktail with mirabelle. I must note - I love mirabelles and that's a note that, in my opinion, is used far too rarely. Carefree fruits at the beginning, then subtle, beautiful flowers that bloom cheerfully. Still far from wilting. And a cozy-sweet base.
Somehow niche within the niche, as there's no attempt to be particularly demanding. Just the simple expectation that it should be fun to wear. Of course, one could philosophize about the connection to music. Monodie is indeed a form of music. But I'll skip that. If you're interested, giyf.

I’d rather repeat myself: Monodie sparkles and shines so beautifully. And it's fun - and it shows me that this is actually what I often seek in a fragrance. Because no matter how beautiful it is, how complex, how exciting - I never feel as good as when I simply spray something that is fun and with which I can have fun. And that makes all the realities, whatever they may be, appear sparkling.

Uncompromising and Rebellious
Monodie is cheeky. Really cheeky. A bold little girl, with a lollipop in her mouth, white knee socks, and braids. What Dad says is ignored, and the exact opposite of what Mom says is the program.

Monodie doesn’t care about anything. Her thoughts are pink. As pink as the slightly citrusy-bitter grapefruit in the top note, accompanied by a fruity-sweet mirabelle. This is how Monodie bounces through young life: carefree and mirabellishly sweet.

Her heart is thorny and ready to argue. Anything that stands in her way is not poked at but instead elegantly embraced with a rose-like tenderness and checkmated. Her mood is fresh and lively, like the beautifully understated freesia in the heart note, which, together with its companion the rose, exudes a velvety cheeky aura. Monodie is pragmatically practical but also a bit lazy. She loves to be comfortable and enjoys lounging around on other people's sofas. Her juicy plum-like nature is underscored by a delicately fine violet. Best friends are plum and violet. Plum-ly and adorably sweet while looking on. Yes, yes, Monodie, you do that well!

Galbanum raises a finger, grumbles a bit herbally, exuding dark green reason and brings Monodie back down to earth. Yes, life has serious sides too. Balsamically heavy, it gives Monodie a lecture, and even the kindly naive rhubarb doesn’t change the fact that even a cheeky little girl has to grow up eventually.

Monodie finds her base and becomes a diva. Well, who would be surprised?! A friend of the grand gesture but with a thoughtful, reserved side. Imagine her sitting in her salon, listening to the sound of old shellac records while enjoying a sweet mirabelle dessert with way too much cream and caramel sauce. Delightfully.

"Monodie - Transgression" is an uncompromisingly fruity-mirabellish fragrance that initially comes off as almost too cheeky and rebellious. However, its soft, cream-focused side makes it calm and gentle towards the base. Galbanum adds seriousness, and so in this YS UZAC creation, contrasts beautifully align once again. Provocatively fruity, reasonably bitter, creamy calm, and carefreely sweet.

Through and through a fragrance for the Monodie in us :-)
