Zaharoff Winner
New from Zaharoff for 2025 is Signature Extreme and Signature Royale XXXL. I wasn't impressed with Royale XXXL but Extreme won me over. The opening for me was mostly spice. Didn't detect the apple. As it evolved, the smokiness appeared followed by the frankincense and leather. The smoke here is more of a subtle or contributing part to the whole. It never evolved into a campfire scent. Extreme is much more sophisticated than that. As the dry down completed, the frankincense dominated followed by a smooth creamy leather, with smoke, spices and the other notes playing a supporting role. The frankincense used here is the same as used at a Catholic Mass. I'd hesitate to call Extreme an incense fragrance. It's an awesome incense-leather fragrance. To me, it smells very much as if you took Bel Ami Eau de Toilette and added incense to it. Since I like Bel Ami, I can't help but like Extreme a lot. It's also a very masculine fragrance, more formal, but could work every day.

Performance is very good. I'm at about 12 hours and am still getting strong whiffs if I move around. Projection was also very good for quite a few hours after application. All in all, Zaharoff has a winner here.

UPDATE: I've tested Derviche II by Rogue Perfumery and it's superior to Signature Extreme to my nose.

Striking, sophisticated Signature flanker with spices and leather; cousin of the original and Noir
Sampling the latest Zaharoff release, Signature Extreme, the first (I think) perfume in extrait concentration from the house, a robust flanker to the original Signature from 2018, with (in my opinion) also some similarities to Signature Noir from 2020. I would immediately describe it as darker and spicier than the original but less sharp and musky than Noir. It interestingly has a boldness (particularly via a leathery aspect) but subtlety to it, not as loud a statement as Signature Leather Tabac (after all, what is?) but almost nodding to Tom Ford Black Lacquer, in a way, with a sort of boozy, varnishy special quality. Key fragrance notes for me include black pepper, fir balsam, frankincense, leather, and oud. It surely is a bit more apt for cool weather and/or nighttime situations but isn’t overstated to the point of being unpleasantly loud anytime, as I see it, so it feels a bit more versatile than, say, Signature Leather Tabac, even if not as wholly versatile as the original Signature. Extreme hints at being animalic while not overflowing with leather, involves some spices without being sharp, and is dark but not overpowering. Very classy stuff, unsurprisingly.

Overall, it’s an outstanding scent and performs well, an easy favorite and go-to. and the value remains remarkably and consistently spectacular, at $195/155 for 120/60ml, kind of astounding in the current market.

Nice guy is now one bad mofo.
Zaharoff's Signature Pour Homme is a very solid and enjoyable fragrance that always gets lost in my collection, not for any technical faults, but for its lack of personality. Subsequent flankers to the line (Royale, Noir and more) have stretched that base in enjoyable ways. That is not what happened here.

In Extrême, George Z & Claude Dir have placed the soul of the original inside a whole new animal. Leather, Smoke, Oud, & Birch growl and resonate against the clean soul (apple , rosemary, cardamom) at its heart. Basil, Sandalwood, & Fir soften this beasts growl and help the whole blend hang together.

On initial spray, the effect is unbalancing but exhilarating. The notes hit, rapid-fire, like a fighter looking for a first round knock-out. But the core gives you stability against which to assess the maelstrom dancing off of you.

It throbs and seethes from your skin for the first 5 minutes, but each pulse opens the darkness a little. By 15 minutes in, the blend enrobes you. Both virgin and reprobate, dark as ink but also gleaming in the light. The light and dark combine into a remarkable entity, intensely unique and unapologetic, surprisingly enjoyable despite the rough launch.

This is a statement fragrance with a strong personality. It creates a close cloud of enticement mixed with a heavy dose of "go f___ yourself". Apologies for the colorful language, but this handsome bastard demands it.

For all of its intensity, it is brilliantly balanced and it has a long story to tell. Sophisticated but rough hewn. If it resonates with you, it will intoxicate you. If not, it may repel.

The manticore
It comes from Persian and Indian mythology and is a mixture of human, lion and scorpion. Sometimes the manticore has wings, sometimes three extremely sharp rows of teeth in a row, or even poisonous stings. It is a cruel man-eater, but hides its intentions behind false friendliness and a gentle, pleasant voice.

Now to return to reality ...

Why choose such a title?

Because the Signature Extrême is something I've never had under my nose before. It opens with a cheerful spicy freshness similar to a Sauvage Elixir but with a green apple. For the next 2 hours it is very difficult to grasp because it is constantly changing and has no fixed form.

To be honest, I don't know how to describe the fragrance because it consists of so many things that make it complex. This consisting of so many things that add up to something.

It has a wicked, positively dirty, smoky, very woody & oudy character. In the background it retains something very subtly shower gel-like while the fir accord breathes in something green resinous.

One embodies the mystical, mysterious, mischievous in a serious way. The appearance of friendliness is deceptive ...

Now my subjective rating:

My first contact with the label, very positively surprised. Very high art ! OVP, bottle etc of a top quality ! And the price absolutely justified !
