A Bridge Between Syria and the Netherlands
During a short holiday in Holland in April, I stumbled upon the charming little perfumery of Abdolito in Leiden. As soon as I entered the shop, I felt the special atmosphere that this place radiates. Every fragrance enthusiast knows that the first few seconds upon entering a perfumery often determine whether one feels comfortable in that space. Here, I felt very comfortable right away.
Abdolito himself warmly welcomed me and my companion and took a lot of time to guide us through his unique fragrance collection. His kindness and expertise in the field of scents made my visit an unforgettable experience.
Among the various fragrances I tried, "Emata" stood out in particular. The scent, presented in a black bottle with a striking label, carries, according to Abdulrazzak, the symbol of his Syrian hometown - a touching homage to his roots.
"Emata" captivates with its complex composition: The fragrance opens with fresh, very spicy, and slightly citrus notes that quickly transition into a warm, spicy heart. I associate the opening with the sound of a can of cola being opened, that spicy fizz that greets you for a moment, perhaps due to the cinnamon note? I also perceive the fruity notes, such as apple and bergamot, at the beginning, even though they are listed in the base. In the heart, the fragrance becomes sweeter and woodier. In the base, this woodiness intensifies, and I now also notice the tobacco note. Woods, vanilla, amber, and a very subtle musk note give the fragrance a lasting depth and warmth. Somehow, the fragrance pyramid seems to be turned upside down. It is a scent that, in my opinion, can be worn both during the day in autumn/winter and in the evening. It leans subtly towards the masculine side.
The fragrance is, on one hand, traditional and oriental, while on the other hand, it is fresh and modern.
In addition to "Emata," I also purchased two other fragrances, Guapa Eau de Parfum and "Fiesta (Extrait de Parfum) | Abdolito," which are also noteworthy and perfectly complement my perfume collection. Reviews will follow... Every fragrance that Abdolito creates seems to bridge his past in Syria and the present in the Netherlands, between tradition and modernity.
I am glad to have the fragrances in my collection and will definitely stop by again on my next visit to Leiden.
My visit to Abdolito's perfumery was not just a shopping trip, but a small journey into a world of scents and stories. I can only recommend to anyone who is in Leiden to visit this charming shop and let Abdolito introduce them to the art of perfumery.
