An Overwhelming Feeling Of Good Smell
I look at the fragrance notes and discover that 22 ingredients have listed that range between citrus fruits, flowers of all kinds, woods, musks, and leathery notes. Even before smelling it, I want to imagine it in my head. Will it be a chypre? Or a fougère? It is definitely not an aquatic, but it could be a woody one or even a spicy one with a leathery reflex. I think I should spray it on my skin and find out what these notes whisper to us in one fragrance. We remember that perfume was born in the 90s when opulence and abundance were the masters.

A fresh herbal lavender a la Cool Water Eau de Toilette, mixed with sharp and soapy citrus fruit, are the first notes that reach my nostrils right out of the initial blast. The acidic facet of the berries soon meets the grassy and green nuances of some unspecified leaves. What a surprise! From the blue-grey glass, I expected something blue or aquatic. Instead, the essence oozes green, fresh, with tangy edges, and slowly takes a floral twist. The floral heart notes, which already echo in the background, do not overwhelm the initial opening with their presence, even if the neroli peeps out soon.

Then, neroli takes leadership of the flowers that emerge later. I first feel the carnation without too much bitterness, which is followed by bold jasmine and hyacinth. Then there is a dewy freesia in the background, which keeps the bouquet light green and prevents it from becoming too heavy. The bitterness of the carnation rises through the floral notes and pleasantly strengthens it. While the heart notes may seem different, the similarity between Cool Water and Iceberg Homme is very pronounced at this stage of development. But it doesn’t surprise me at all. Iceberg Homme came out a couple of years later and Cool Water was gaining fame in that decade. The nutmeg is pretty sweet, while the rose and the iris are subdued and difficult to isolate.

Eventually the floral notes take backstage and an amber patchouli base comes to the fore. Thru the drydown, this sweet, somewhat salty, and warm scent is present while oakmoss becomes prominent. Oakmoss, on me, is the more notable note thru the end, although all the other notes come and go, like fragrance brought from changing breezes on a walk thru a grassy field. In the last traces, I recall another two colognes I used when I was young, Enrico Coveri pour Homme Dollar and Borsalino Eau de Toilette. To my nose, leather is barely detectable, and more akin to suede. Do not expect a leathery Tom Ford slant, not that kind.

Unexpectedly, the reformulated release has moderate sillage but average longevity. The scent stays with me for many hours, mossy. I find it great for spring and summer months, mostly for daily and evening events. An overwhelming feeling of pleasant smell, a hybrid of Cool Water Eau de Toilette and Enrico Coveri pour Homme Dollar.

I base the review on a 100ml bottle I have owned since July 2018.

Discontinued
This has never continued in production, I searched everywhere yet I found the new old stock. I was glad at first but when I got it out of the box, the liquid turns dark yellow which I remembered it was not like this back then (1991) when I first bought it. Apparently the scent turns me off, I believe the notes molecule has expired that's why perfume been kept for 20 years in shelves surely goes out of date. I'm not a nose but sensitive to scents.
Oh well, it's history and history don't repeat but this was really good iceberg for men.

Fine Unforced Masculinity
At first, one can perceive an intense citrus and also a slightly herbal note, which brings a subtle sweetness with it, and I suspect the interplay of bergamot and Almafi lemon here.

At the same time, these two notes are enveloped by a fine Mediterranean nuance, which gives the top note a certain maritime, indeed slightly aquatic softness, thanks to the lavender.

These three notes are surrounded by delicate fruity, slightly sweet nuances that lend a pleasantly sparkling quality to the top note, coming from the red berries, where I suspect red currants and gooseberries, as well as the mandarin.

In the background, a fine greenish and also subtly spicy note sets a pleasant masculine accent, and while I cannot say exactly which notes these are, I feel reminded of coriander and galbanum.

Unfortunately, I could not perceive neroli, but I can very well imagine that this note was used for support.

This constellation is perceptible on my skin for 15 minutes before the heart note unfolds.

Now, a beautiful light floral note can be perceived, which also brings a very subtle woody aura, derived from the freesia.

At the same time, the freesia is accompanied by another floral nuance that is not explicitly noticeable, but somehow one recognizes it and it has been used as a fine air lifter, and only jasmine can do that.

These two notes are enveloped by a strong aromatic, slightly spicy note reminiscent of allspice and pepper, which gives the fragrance a beautiful unforced masculinity, thanks to the carnation and nutmeg.

These four notes are surrounded by a beautiful floral note that ensures that the heart note retains a light yet tangible quality, coming from the cyclamen and the rose.

I could not perceive iris and hyacinth, but I can very well imagine that these two notes were used for support.

The heart note is perceptible on my skin for 3 hours before the base takes hold.

This time, I will describe the base a little differently, namely in the order in which I perceive the notes:

Sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, vanilla. Musk, Virginia cedar, and oakmoss.

The mentioned notes form a complete whole, and I find the base of Iceberg Homme to be the most beautiful.

The sandalwood gives the fragrance a warming and embracing aura, which also brings a very subtle spicy aura, and I really like it.

The sandalwood is delicately underlaid with earthy, very subtly sweet notes, which fits wonderfully, as in my opinion, the embracing aura is further enhanced and is thanks to the patchouli.

Somewhat in the background, but perceptible, rather used as a "finisher," there is a fine bitter-sweet nuance that, in my opinion, is responsible for keeping the fragrance light rather than heavy, and it comes from the vetiver.

These two notes are surrounded by a fine, almost transparent, very subtle sweet creamy nuance that gives the base something very pleasant, derived from the bourbon vanilla.

The entire base is enveloped by something bright, finely mossy, without appearing completely outdated, but one must say that the fragrance clearly possesses recognizable classic traits, yet in a light and very skillful manner, as I find.

In the end, a very soft, almost silky wooden hint of Virginia cedar remains on my skin.

Unfortunately, I could not perceive amber and leather, but I can very well imagine that these two notes were used for complementation.

Overall, the fragrance lasts 6 hours on my skin.

The sillage is designed in the first 10 minutes so that one is clearly perceived at half an arm's length before it unfortunately becomes very close to the skin.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to our Parfumo "Zirkeltanz" for the vintage miniature.

Iceberg Ahead
... one might almost ironically speculate when it comes to the temporary appearance of an aquatic-fresh fragrance in comparison to the original father of that olfactory genre, namely Cool Water. Yes, it should actually be called "Iceberg Behind!" And just as clumsily as this comment begins, so too does the bottle of Iceberg Homme seem to be sculpted or designed.

But wait, machines stop! At first glance, one believes that the Italian fashion label merely wanted to blindly emulate the brilliant original from Davidoff.
In fact, Iceberg Homme is a bit more than just a copy - although one might wonder whether this circumstance was intentional or coincidental.

When examining this fragrance more closely, one notices a sublime difference alongside a few identical ingredients. Iceberg Homme is indeed cool, refreshing, and aquatic, but it is also spicier in the heart due to the high nutmeg content and, above all, has a nearly cuddly musk base in the dry down. So, like a large monolithic iceberg with a rather soft but surprising core, and not nearly as deep beneath the surface of the sea as one might think.

Well, that may come across as more original than the original, yet I can't quite warm up to this ice block. Neither a big steamer nor an aquatic fragrance can surpass Cool Water anytime soon. Moreover, Iceberg Homme, due to some synthetic moments, doesn't really seem to be of high quality, but rather - Leimbacher has already pointed in the right direction - like a drugstore product, albeit one of better nature.

And with that, our iceberg melts down to snowball size, but one can still score hits with that - whether forward or backward.

Thank You for the Flowers
Recently, it was on sale at Rossmann. 12 EUR for 50ml is a typical drugstore price, comparable to Tabac Man and others, but here for a 'grown-up' perfume!
You can't go wrong, so I bought it!

The top note starts off fresh and citrusy on paper, slightly green and rounded off by the lavender. It lasts moderately long and then transitions into the heart note with the lavender. On the skin, the lavender is significantly more prominent, while the citrus freshness is only briefly noticeable at the top and then stays in the background. Anything else listed for the top note is not perceptible to me.

The heart note develops equally well on paper and on the skin.
It is distinctly floral and green. I believe I can smell the freesia, maybe violet and jasmine. There is also a slightly smoky note that is perceptible.
The heart note lasts quite long with a sufficient application (4 sprays on the upper body) and becomes a bit milder over time.
The scent seems to drift a bit more towards 'floral scent'.

The base note (paper and skin don't differ much) comes through with musk, wood, and amber, initially fresh, then softer and warmer.
I can't identify any mossy or herbal tones, but it is slightly soapy, especially on paper. And in the long run, leather is also perceptible.

Iceberg Homme is definitely a child of its time, so early 90s, and is more aligned with the Fougère structure.
It reminds me, especially in the heart note, a bit of my 'old love' Herrera for Men.
The opening here is also rather fine aromatic, but the lavender is dominant.
I find the base note well done and it brings its own scent progression. I missed that in HfM.

The longevity is overall good to very good, but the projection is rather weak. HfM does that better.

Not a milestone in perfume history. Not extraordinary.

But on the whole, a good idea and quite decently executed.
Although it certainly fits better in the warmer seasons, it can also be worn in winter under a sweater.

As an everyday and/or office scent, it's not a bad choice, as it's overall pleasant but unobtrusive and yet not a uniform, generic scent.

I will use it more often!

Anyone looking for an affordable yet good perfume should take advantage of the next sale at Rossmann!

Note: The information on the fragrance pyramid from 13.02.2013 has been removed today (05.04.2013), as it has now been supplemented in the product description.

Note 2 (29.04.2013): The spray head is sometimes a bit sticky. Unfortunately. Otherwise, still happily worn.

Note 3 (19.12.2013): Instead of rose (one of my nemeses ;-) ), it is probably the freesia that determines a bright floral scent here.

Surprisingly pleasant smell. It could be the lemon, or the florals, or the oakmoss. But then again, it could be all of those blended nicely!

My fresh-spicy scent companion for many summer semesters in the 90s. Loved and often repurchased... and then eventually not anymore.

90s vibe (Cool Water) layered with 70s charm (woody patchouli). Not bad, but unique. You really have to want something like this.

A rather sweet scent that is well-received by women - unfortunately, it has become quite diluted over time. Has accompanied me since the early '90s.
