Greetings everyone :)
Welcome to my first review of this still young year 2025. Sit back and make yourselves comfortable.
For my fragrance discussion today, I have chosen a brand that probably causes a bit of head-scratching for most, after all, Anomalous only launched in October of last year, so it’s practically fresh out of the gate. Perhaps also new, we are dealing with an Australian brand, which in our regions, regarding fragrances, might not be so present, at least not for me.
Without getting too caught up in small talk, what do we have here? If you take a look at the provided pyramid, I think it quickly becomes clear that this could be quite a wild ride and oh Boy! it’s going to be a fever dream! :D
Let’s start with the details. I find the opening of the fragrance quite interesting, it’s like having sipped through the bar, these wedding guests definitely seem to be no connoisseurs!
However, it becomes quite wine-heavy, the rest feels more like an accessory in my opinion. It should be noted that this is even intentional, as the good Mr. Creator of the fragrance (a wonderful, warm guy by the way, with whom you can talk about fragrances for hours, even if he can be a bit scatterbrained at times, but that makes him endearing to me :D), after the first batch of the fragrance was done and the first feedback was in, actually cranked up the wine note. In the background, there’s a slightly malty-caramel note, with dried fruit notes serving as a foundation.
What follows is the part of the fragrance that still leaves me a bit puzzled today, after what feels like 10 tests, whether I like the fragrance or not. The scent gradually becomes heavier, really heavy as a sack and extremely dense, I told you it’s a fever dream xD The top notes are practically thrown aside, everything fills with distinct fruit isolates, foremost plum, which is further boosted by Prunella and Prunol, held high, triumphing as if it were the new king.
Everything else presses itself against it, floral notes first in a lively dance, then centrifuging, as if we were in astronaut training. Everything orbits this damned plum, as if it were its new fixed star. Reach for the stars, they seem so close, yet are so far away! To keep everything from completely spiraling out of control, light synthetic threads hold everything together. David vs. Goliath Gong Round 2!
All the fruits, flowers forced to orbit. Like at a wedding party, the later the evening, the more exuberant the guests. Everything blurs, carefree, joyful, squeaky, almost exhausting, you just want to lie down in a corner.
After this absolute vortex of everything that party life has to offer, the base slowly fights its way up and oh dear how it fights! To the blood! It takes quite a while for this entire fused block to dissolve again, but the ultimately emerging woody-amber notes do bring some calm...finally!
Oh man, what a party! Where do we end up now? This fragrance definitely scores points in terms of uniqueness, I can’t spontaneously think of anything comparable, definitely another absolute niche fragrance. One should have a certain fondness for boozy stuff (I’m raising my hand in the background :D).
As I mentioned earlier, I am actually a bit puzzled when it comes to the final rating. I’ll give it a 7 overall. Anomalous or Zackaria has indeed created something extraordinary with its first collection. The fragrance may not fully open up to me, but I’m still curious to see what this brand will bring in the coming months/years :)
