Ambre Noir from Sonoma Scent Studio is dense and intense and the darkest amber you could ever hope to meet. Both somber and smoldering, with notes of labdanum, rose, incense, moss, leather, and woods, it is a blackened forest fireside frolic when the veil between worlds is thinnest. See also: the final moments in the film The VVitch. If you like outrageously dark, spellbindingly smoky amber fragrances, I believe you'll enjoy this one.

Knock on Wood

Ambre Noir sent me into a strange little emotional spin as it made me both sad and happy to discover it.

Sad, because it had been on my test list for a long time due to its lush notes and enigmatic name ... But ended up leaving me feeling "meh".
Happy however, because I now won't have to get a bottle.

Split reaction for a split personality scent, especially in the early stages of development.
One side of the coin is warm and honeyed and the other has antiseptic medicinal qualities reminiscent of a heat rub.
It progresses from then on to being a dusty amber with very pronounced wood undertones, quite similar to Youth Dew in fact.

I prefer my amber sweeter and smoother but if you're after a woody one, then this fits the bill nicely.

Smooth and Seductive Dark Amber

True to its name, Sonoma Scent Studio AMBRE NOIR is a dark, thick and viscous, YOUTH DEW-like perfume. One look at the contents of the vial, and it becomes clear that this is a serious elixir. The opening is briefly medicinal but then the composition smooths into a “dusky” (as they put it—and rightly so!) labdanum-rich amber perfume. This is strictly a winter affair, with an oily incense note along with the other hard-hitting oriental components, but we in Boston have no spring, so we're trapped in winter basically until the day that summer dawns (sometime in May, we hope!). So far so good. I'll update as the evening progresses...
