Perfume with a split personality
This fragrance has multiple personalities making it difficult to rate. It starts out with a very dry and rough leather smell. At this point, it's a super masculine scent. Over about 30 minutes to an hour it becomes sweeter. There came a point in this dry down/transition where I wished I had a stop button. It kept on going until it was too sweet for me. It smelled like a piece of leather smeared with ooey gooey honey. Here, I'd rate it at best as unisex if not outright leaning feminine. Burying my nose under my t-shirt resulted in no rose component. However, sniffing it in the air from the scent bubble, I and others did pick up a sweeter rose scent on occasion. The sweet gooey stage lasted about 4 hours when it transformed into a simple leather scent with a subtle powdery aspect. At this stage, I'd rate it again as masculine.
Performance is astronomic, with strong sillage and projection with super longevity. The following morning, it was still a strong skin scent. As I did my morning cardio and started sweating, Black Knight started projecting again and I ended up with an arm's length scent bubble around me - about 14 hours after application.
For myself, I don't care for it. Stages 1 and 3 as described above would have garnered a like but the long, sweet middle stage was a definite dislike. I can't afford to wait 4 hours to get to the point where I like it again, therefore an overall dislike. For a leather fragrance, I'd much rather go with Guilty Absolute or Cuoium.
I would classify it unisex but that's not really accurate. I suspect most women would have a hard time with the opening, but putting up with that for an hour results in a more feminine-friendly scent at stages 2 and 3. For a man looking for a hyper-masculine leather scent (like me), you're out of luck after the first hour. Stage 3 is a softer leather, without the rough edges. A man who generally uses sweeter fragrances and is OK with unisex and 'leans somewhat masculine' scents, would probably be OK with Dark Knight. However, Dark Knight would definitely not work for those used to only very sweet perfumes. This fragrance does require a discerning nose and is not for a beginner.
