The review I actually wanted to write about Creed Aventus
Few men's fragrances have produced as many scent twins over the last 10 years as Creed Aventus. They are now so numerous and diverse that they almost represent a genre of their own within the perfume community. However, before one gets lost deeper in this rabbit hole, it would be wise to first test the original to have a sort of "reference point." This was roughly my train of thought almost exactly a year ago when I asked a nice Parfumo user via PM for a decant of the legendary juice. What arrived, however, left me shaking my head in confusion and with question marks.
It is no secret that Creed Aventus has undergone countless transformations throughout its history, and the newer batches are merely a shadow of what the early batches from the 2010s delivered. The much-quoted "smoky pineapple" was completely absent in my decant of a 2024 batch; rather, it contained an indefinable, green freshness that surprisingly developed into a woody oak moss/amber base over a surprisingly short duration. The longevity was at best at cologne level, and the sillage was more than meager. The disappointment in my review at that time was practically written all over it: "I wish I had never smelled the original." - Ouch.
Despite this harsh setback, the Aventus DNA simply wouldn't let me go: CDN Precieux I, Bohemian Lime, Eros Energy, and finally in July of this year, the Aventus Cologne - wonderful fragrances that I wouldn't want to miss in my collection and that are all closely related to the OG. However, until now, there had been none that managed to capture exactly that idea which, according to Aventus fans, symbolizes this fragrance: a smoky pineapple note, fruity accents of blackcurrant and apple, and finally a woody birch/oak moss/amber base. This changed abruptly when I recently stumbled upon Avapari and their Smoky Pineapple.
From the very first spray, I knew: Yep, this is it. THIS is what I imagine Aventus to smell like. THIS is how that decant should have smelled back in October 2024.
The very first spray cloud is cool and smoky, with the pineapple immediately standing out. This is a truly overripe pineapple. In the background, fruity aromas of blackcurrant and apple are recognizable. The citrus is, especially compared to other dupes, very restrained and barely perceptible, which pleasantly surprised me.
While the fruitiness remains, woody accords are added in the further course, and the smoke recedes a bit. In the drydown, there is then oak moss and amber, which together with the musk form a pleasant base.
The longevity is quite decent and - this is probably the most important aspect - significantly better than the original. We're talking about solid 7-8 hours with a good, but not overwhelming sillage. A quite satisfactory performance!
Conclusion: I never thought that my search for a decent Isola Blu dupe would lead me to the best Aventus clone by far. But Avapari has really delivered with this absolute insider tip. The prices are more than reasonable for high-quality extraits, and you also regularly get discounts on their own website. I can recommend this fragrance to anyone who has been looking for a true, authentic Aventus dupe for a while. Your search ends here!!
