Lyrical leather
During the Christmas holidays, I found myself in a delightful multi-brand perfumery on the Riviera Romagnola. Among the various collections, Brunello Cucinelli's new private line called Incanti Poetici (Poetic Enchantments) immediately jumped out at me. Among the six perfumes I immediately tried Ombra Lirica (Lyrical Shadow) because it was the one that on paper seemed most like me. I was not wrong. The opening is strong and spicy - although no spices appear in the official pyramid - perhaps due to the intense woods used (declared as cedar, gaiac and oud) and olibanum. Once settled, the composition gives a realistic impression of tanned leather, but one that is light and not overly pungent, nor deviating towards suede. Unlike similar fragrances, no flowers (such as osmanthus) are used to lighten the leather, but - paradoxically - woods (I mainly smell gaiac with a hint of smoke). All in all, a pleasant creation, perhaps not entirely commensurate with the important price, but worthy of the nose that created it.
