This fragrance has a very high personality.
An intense, not sweet honey, accompanied by aromatic notes which then transforms into tobacco and leather.

The Anecdote of Mr. L.

Mr. L. was one of the best riding instructors and horse trainers I ever had. He worked at the local riding club when I started riding regularly as a little girl. I looked forward to the riding lesson every week like crazy, even though we didn’t always have it easy. Mr. L. was an old-school type, as they used to say. It was almost always the rider's fault if something didn’t work out right away or if a horse just didn’t “function.” There were also long lectures due to misbehavior. Time and again, he would shout at us loudly, with the result that we understood the meaning and purpose of the lesson we practiced.

What I learned from him can never be taken away from me. And as rough as he could be as a person, he loved the horses and us kids very much. Sometimes he would give one or another child a lesson. Once this was understood and internalized, he could embrace you warmly. Every child was important to him, and you didn’t need to have your own expensive horse to learn to ride properly under his guidance.

But not everyone in our local town saw it that way. They believed Mr. L. did not give the club the best image. He walked around day in and day out in worn-out riding clothes. His office resembled a hoarder's cave and was always heavily soiled. And he was a heavy smoker. He smelled just like that. Of dirt, smoke, and horse stable. His car also had the odor of a stable aisle, with the typical scent of riding animals, hoof care oils made from herbs, and the intensely dark-smelling hoof tar. And you could also catch a whiff of the many hours Mr. L. spent in saddle rooms, as he always had a leathery scent surrounding him.

After a few years, another Mr. L. replaced him. Many children without their own horses and very wealthy parents, including myself, gradually left the club because they were no longer making progress in riding. The new one was always neatly dressed and smelled of a typical, elegant men's perfume. He fit the stereotype of a refined gentleman. Just as the club members had wished. But he lacked one thing. A heart in the right place.

The scent of Metaphore WJ immediately transports me back to the riding club. I stand in the stable aisle, Mr. L. is assigning the horses and helping the newcomers who can’t saddle up by themselves yet. Yes, this Matos has quite a dirty scent, but dirty doesn’t always have to be bad, as the little anecdote from my youth shows. By the way, Mr. L. is doing well and is still giving riding lessons at a very high level. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of being taught by him again. He still smells just like he did back then.

Clouds of Earth and Brown Gasoline

Through the roof of the old Dodge, the sky rushes by. Today it is dark brown gasoline, shimmering turpentine from turbines that rise from the misty grounds. There is hardly any leather left on the seats, jasmine is dying in the greasy cracks, tobacco leaves hang in tatters in the rearview mirror, closer than they appear. Keep your hands where I can see them, damp earth flows over the highway, it falls from the heavy clouds and smears over streaks of black honey. And from the ground, bright green roots sprout, to which bitter thyme needles grow, glowing like gaslights in the darkness, into which we dive deeper in the puddles beneath the gas stations.

Flavius Călajs niche perfume house in Romanian Arad collaborates with renowned perfumers and tries to have as much as possible handcrafted by small local businesses, a process that is well-suited for limited editions.
"Metaphore WJ" is a tribute to Metaphore World Jewelry, a creative jewelry manufacturer in Bucharest. Miguel Matos' creation opens with liqueur-like earthy patchouli and old leather, damp and heavy. FrauKirsche's association with motor oil or gasoline is obvious and is underscored by slightly carrion jasmine. Dry, dark tobacco leaves and bitter honey soon replace the leather and provide a warm base, which in turn is tinted bitter-green by the thyme. I would have also guessed Haitian vetiver, as the dominant patchouli becomes increasingly rooty over the hours while preserving its gasoline note. The clouds of earth and brown gasoline rain long and roaring.
