Resplendent amber
I'm enjoying wearing Ambra Aurea so intensively today, I had to write a few words to honor it. I own and enjoy other ambers this one seems to grab them up together in one huge warm private hug which lasts all day long. Full of bitter and slightly sweet resins, Ambra Aurea is rich and smoky but still manages to sparkle and shine. You could connect with ancient mediterranean history through it, but I don't feel it as decadent in any way. Has a great longevity but it isn't overwhelming or invasive if you keep up to a couple of sprays. An investment for all true amber lovers.

An oriental opulent versed in resins, magnified.
I'm trying it these days, and I can only say that ... It's Hallucinatory !!! A pity to have such a limited pocket, because if not, a bottle of this elixir would come home right now.

Ambra Aurea is a mix of amber and amazing smoked wood. An amber in all its splendor, sweet, resinous, a tinge dusty with animal and raw touches, and very smoky by the incense, almost touching the liturgical, but without falling squarely on it, a beautiful thing, full of opulence and mastery.

With the first spray, for now, I came to mind "Ambre Fetiche", but it's funny, because when you bring your nose does not smell the same, is a more raw amber, animalic and a tad sweeter, but what projects is Something similar, with that resinous, leaden and somewhat metallic amber that I like so much about AF. Then, little by little, the incense comes into play, making the fragrance a balsamic amber, sweet and very smoky, with a strong load of incense, a smoked wood with sweet nuances of amber, precious. The rest of the perfume is this accord of smoked wood and amber, but with subtle nuances of leather and patchouli, which make the aroma something more complex and precious, staying in skin, until it dies flush with skin gradually. An oriental beauty based on resins, which removes hiccups.

How could it be otherwise the performance of this potion is very good, with a duration in skin that exceeds 10 hours and an important wake in the first hours of the application, then drops to moderate, and progressively goes down to die flush with skin.

A night perfume, of cold and temperate climates. A weapon of mass seduction for an elegant date. It is a perfume of special occasions, it would be a waste to use it every day.

Obligatory proof for all lovers of orientals versed in resins, a unique beauty, not suitable for everyone, the quality of ingredients is noted and as a result, its price is high, but, in my humble opinion, it deserves every cent that is ask for it, a real pity that my pocket is not looser to allow me, right now, a bottle of this elixir, because if not, it would already be in my collection, although I do not rule it out in the near future ...

Sorry for my bad english.

The atmosphere of an ancient crypt
Everyone compares this to Ambre sultan Eau de Parfum, and I’ll admit when I first smelled it on paper, I thought it was virtually indistinguishable from the SL classic, with only the drydown being subtly different (more transparent and vanillic, less woody). However, now that I’ve worn it properly on skin, I actually think the two scents are different enough that I can’t fairly compare them. They conjure up very different emotions and associations for me.

Where Ambre Sultan is a rather literal portrait of cistus labdanum (accurate and specific enough that it immediately brings me back to walking past a literal rockrose hedge that grew near my house), Ambra Aurea - despite having a similar scent profile - feels far more atmospheric.

It smells like dirt and musty old church and censers that haven't been cleaned in several hundred years. There’s a kind of sour, damp note that specifically conjures up the image of an ancient crypt. There’s dust and cobwebs and papers mouldering in neglected wooden cabinets. Actually there’s quite a lot of mould in this crypt.

Despite these haunting associations, Ambra Aurea is a relatively light, transparent fragrance, ultimately drying down to a quiet but stunning and very delicate frankincense. What little sweetness there is comes from the natural sweetness of that incense - no heavy vanillas here.
As much as I think it’s unfair to compare this with Ambre Sultan, I will always favor a haunting atmospheric, so I think I can at least say this one will be getting more wear.

By the way, this smells EXACTLY like the incense they burn at my church. I've said that about a few fragrances, notably Series 3: Incense - Avignon, but I don't think any have quite captured the complexity, warmth and smokiness of that scent like this one does. IT'S SO GOOD.

P.S. there must be an incredibly high concentration of resins in this because it literally crystallises on the outside of the atomiser. The cap is hard to get off cause it's so sticky.

The fragrance that made me
This is the first fragrance that made me deeply understand the love and the art of fragrances. It wasn't love at first sniff, but it stuck in my mind for days and has now become my favorite scent.

Ambra Aurea opens with a strong smokey scent, with notes of tobacco and leather. For me, this combination is a musty old antique store or a library with ancient decaying leather bound books. This can be off-putting at first, but becomes deeply intriguing.

After some wear, the sweetness of vanilla comes through. It takes me back to my father's smokey bee boxes with their honey-filled wax frames.

In the end, the harsh musty smell dissipates almost completely. Leaving you with a playful cream soda sweetness.

This scent is anything you want it to be. It's masculine, it's feminine. It's sexy. It's academic. It's mysterious. Grotesque and alluring. Divisive and inviting. It's definitely not for everyone, but it is never boring and it will make you feel things, as all good art should.

Delivers in Quality what it Lacks in Complexity
Time to reach out more for the scents that cut through the cold. I wear whatever I feel like all year round, but there are a few scents that fare better in the cold. Ambra Aurea is one of them. Not necessarily because it is an amber scent, but because it is so thick and oily that it often becomes suffocating in the heat, while it envelops you like a warm cocoon during the cold Winter months. It is one of the most renowned Amber perfumes on the market, and rightfully so. Among the true amber fragrances in my collection, it is the least dynamic and unique, but it delivers in quality what it lacks in diversity. My main complaints with Profumum Roma scents are: 1) they are rather linear, and 2) too sweet for my tastes. Boy, they sure love their sweetness. However, Ambra Aurea, while it is sweet, never gets on my nerves. There is a strong bitterness from the myrrh, as well as a saltiness from the ambergris to help offset the sweetness. Surprisingly, this is an amber scent that is rather complex, going through several transitions along the way. I think it is one of the strongest creations in their line, at least for my tastes. It opens up with a strong note of myrrh that smells bitter, medicinal, and earthy to the point of feeling fungal. It has this oily texture from the get-go, almost like you're applying essential oil rather than perfume, but then these Profumum scents are very concentrated. There is also a saline quality with a hint of muskiness and tobacco-like facets, most likely attributed to the ambergris. As it settles down, it becomes sweeter, smokier, and more toffee-like. It gets significantly sweeter compared to the opening, but is kept in check by the other factors. Another thing that becomes more apparent as it evolves is the smokiness. For the first two hours or so, I wouldn’t call this a smoky amber, but in the dry-down, it gets really smoky. I like how it progresses, and I appreciate the quality of materials and the ratios used to create the perfect balance. As mentioned, it’s not a unique take on amber, but surely one of the best interpretations on the market, and of very high quality also.

Linear incense and sandalwood mix, almost a molecular concept. Try Le Lion, Amber Kiso, Anubis or Bengale Rouge for more complexity.

A simple yet magnificent interpretation at the same time, with a touch of incense that makes this amber sacred, like a wonderful aura

Less sweet than a typical amber, but far more depth due to the blend of resins. Excellent for those averse to sweet vanillic ambers.

Dusty, smoky opening over an alluring vanilla amber. The best Amber I've discovered so far.

A triad of grey amber, incense and myrrh in an ascetic procession of timeless temptations. Highly recommended!

Extremely dense, heavy, warm, powerful amber. Makes you feel like you have been sprayed with molten gold. Very situational, not for everyday

Strong, enjoyable, but simple, boring and ... it is 25 years old. It is not sexy.

The floor has just been given a new coat of varnish, and I'm inside a waxy cedarwood confessional. A hint of vanilla, but too woody for me.

Sweet smoky amber in the air, frankincense up close. A stand out, out of 1000's of fragrances.
