The Master Counterfeiter? A Comparison.
I am already familiar with several fragrances from Dua and must say that, for example, "Night in the Desert | The Dua Brand / Dua Fragrances" comes suspiciously close to "Sahara Noir | Tom Ford." Tired or inexperienced noses would not detect any difference. Rather, the Dua also has a pretty strong presence, but when you break it down, you realize that it lacks that certain something. Well, Sahara Noir is the object of desire, not the other way around. Tom Ford's Sahara is consistently more interesting and mature. As for longevity and sillage, I am not so sure anymore. But how does this comparison hold up? "Arabian Amber Nuit | The Dua Brand / Dua Fragrances" is said to smell similar to the ever-popular "Ambre Nuit | Dior." While the Dua costs only a fraction of what the Dior costs, it is very long-lasting and alarmingly abundant and demanding. One naturally wonders: Who is more talented? The true artist or the master counterfeiter?
To start, the Dua begins quite differently than Dior's Ambre Nuit. At the first sniff, I thought right away that they have only minimal similarities. Dior is not exactly sweet at the beginning, rather peppery, but it immediately creates a wonderful base with dense warmth. It feels calm and mature. Noble. Just as one knows from most Dior Privee offerings. Dua's Arabian Amber Nuit, on the other hand, has a bumpy start. You can tell it is heading towards the Orient and that it will become warm and spicy, but the certain punch is absolutely not there at the beginning. The Dua takes quite some time to finally gain momentum. But let's not be too harsh.
Slowly but surely, warmth also returns to the Dua. It feels calmer now that it has been resting on my skin for a while. I perceive a subtly sweet note of patchouli that only faintly smells of earth. Clearly mixed and strongly anchored with a fresh rose. Additionally, it is enveloped by a slightly citrusy note, which is layered with sand and almost stifles everything in its infancy. The scent becomes deeper but never reaches the heart like Ambre Nuit. It then feels a bit heavier, wanting to show that it has power. And it does! Its longevity and sillage are in the upper segment, and I dare say it is significantly more potent and lasts longer than the Dior.
Over time, a timid warmth emerges, enriched with vanilla. It becomes thicker, denser, but also rougher. As gentle as the Dior presents itself, this Dua is by no means. This does not make it less beautiful, but in my opinion, it feels less rounded. It becomes slightly powdery, and it has a hint of animalic as well.
I have now been approached several times about this and, to my surprise, found that it is much better received by my friends and acquaintances. Those who have little fragrance experience cannot distinguish the Dua from the Dior. "Isn't it the same?" I heard my brother say. No, it is not, and that is a good thing.
I still like it, as despite its bumpy start, it creates a beautiful overall picture. A fine oriental that has a long breath and spreads very abundantly on the skin. Those who seek this and do not want to spend so much money on the Dior are in the right place here.
As for the bottle, they are completely different, as you can see. But yes, you can't have everything ;) :D
