fruit as creature of the night; goth California Raisins; a black mass of unholy cherries
Eauso Vert Fruto Oscuro: In the basement of an ancient Spanish mission, there's a forgotten wine cellar where the air is thick with centuries of fermentation. The massive barrels have burrowed into the cellar floor, their wooden staves blackened with time. Here, the California Raisins - those claymation creatures of 80s fame - have found their true calling as bacchanalian priests of a midnight sabbath.

They dance in the dark, their wrinkled bodies glistening with communion wine that's gone deliciously corrupt. The sacrament itself has evolved, developed consciousness, learned to crawl out of its casks at night. It carries the memory of fruit that ripened past the point of virtue, fruit that chose to embrace decay as a form of transcendence.

Black cherries prowl, lush, wayward creatures of the night, leaving trails of wax and ink in their wake, while patches of moss grow in impossible shades of purple. Somewhere in the darkness, a quince tree has taken root in the stone, its fruits fermenting on the branch, dripping jam that tastes like the midnight confession of wicked ghosts.

This is fruit that has rejected the sun, each drop a tiny black mass, an unholy celebration of fruit that's gone ravenously feral in the dark.

Sour cherry, hurray!
When it comes to cherry I'm always very picky; there are too synthetical cherries, overly sweet cherries... Its complicated. This one is extremely well done, smells more like a black cherry than an average one. Yes! I love how it mixes with artemisia. It's intoxicating! For once the resins support the perfume instead of ruining it, this one is not only a "fruto oscuro" it's completely sinful and not ashamed of showing it. Beautiful creation.

Yummy like Sangria
I love this one. I won it in a raffle at a fragrance swap in SanFran. Of course I'm a lover of Rodrigo Flores-Roux's work so that was a bonus. This one reminds me of a spicy sangria, which I love. It's a red wine sangria which I love even more as a red wine lover. It's gorgeous and I wear it and feel peppy and a little spicy in a fun way. I feel like it's perfect for any time.

Pleasant unsweet black cherry
I had extremely high hopes for this scent... And it delivered. I have tried a few cherry scents, and Fruto Oscuro is unlike any other. It is NOT a gourmand scent. At all. It's fruity, especially in the opening. If you're familiar with Mojave Ghost, you will recognize a similar sapote / pear-like note in the background here. The cherry has zero sourness, yet it is not exactly sweet either; or it is sweet but in a fresh way... Sweet like cloves. It is an aromatic cherry, supported by the bitterness of artemisia. Elemi resins add a faint pine-y resinous and slightly soapy quality to the fragrance. The dry-down is more of incense on top of the opening scent, and fruitiness fades a bit but never goes away on my skin. It's... Wonderful, really. Dark, dark cherry.

Fruity, spicy, then... Pine-Sol
This starts out with a lovely burst of fruit and spices that conjured images of a Christmas simmer pot. Very sweet and fruity on my skin, but on my wife the balance of fruit and spices was much more even. It was a promising start, until the fragrance dried down on both of us to a sharp, synthetic, piney scent, like Pine-Sol. To give this fragrance the benefit of the doubt, it could be that we just didn't try it during the right time of year (it's currently mid-spring). If we still have our sample come winter, I might try it again and see if it can change my mind.

As someone who dislikes overly sweet fruity fragrances this is nice! Think more dry mulled wine than sacharine. The incense is quite subtle. Excellent

Herb-fresh, spicy, fruity undertone with noble woods.
