fragments of a dream
As I have been wearing this fragrance, I am struck by how nothing seems quite linear about it, how delicately "outside of time" it feels. I realized it reminded me of the feeling I have after waking up and trying to recall the dream I was just having. I am half-here, half-there, both places and neither at once.

Nosferatu is like that--fragments from last night's dreams, scrawled in the grey dawn before they fade: the moon's reflection in cooling bathwater. Soft fog, carved from shadow, packed with frost. A brittle wisp of dried lilac, phantasmal at twilight, fragile rustles of the restless dead. Storm-struck stone, its hollow sparking echo dimly illuminating a subterranean cavern, ghost light lingering between vespers, dawn, and never. The creeping moss of midnight rains veining the marble tears of weeping saints.

Misty abandoned church
It feels a bit cold and dreary but not in an austere way. Just cold and quiet. Reminds me of an old, abandoned church in the middle of a misty field; the scent of wet stone and flowers with a hint of salt. A really beautiful, ethereal, violet-heavy petrichor that gets more earthy as it dries down. It lays pretty close to my body and fades kind of fast but I’m so in love with the fragrance itself.

more mermaid than vampire
Imagine a cold, deserted beach at dusk. You see a figure draped facedown over the rocky coast, unmoving and limp. She's nude and her damp body is covered in half-crushed purple blooms. A salty, musky, metallic, almost blood-like, scent lingers in the still air. You don't notice her webbed fingers or the delicate gills along her neck until you gently flip her over. The woman's eyes flutter open, but they're all wrong. The pupils are too large and they have an almost metallic, reflective flash to them. She smiles at you, showing off her rows of needle-sharp teeth. You're too shocked to even scream as she yanks you towards the frigid waves and pulls you beneath.

For the romantic necrophiliacs
I think before you smell this perfume, you need to go watch at least one of various renditions of the Nosferatu movie. I’ve only seen the most recent 2024 version, and lowkey… actually, I’ll keep it to myself LOL. Let’s talk about this haunting beauty.

Nosferatu is an earthy, ambery, purple floral. Lilac and violet sit pretty and deadly aside a dirty, wet, and very realistic petichor. The oud and labdanum add depth to an already complex scent. I was scared that the scent was going to be too “soil-like”, but all the notes are really well blended. The petrichor hits like a vampire’s first taste of blood, and then smooths out into the rest of the composition. It’s stunning, kind of creepy and but also, somehow, seductive, dark, and ghastly. It scares me, but also makes be feel like the most beautiful dead woman walking. It smells like gentle, deep kisses, in the midst of death and decay, under a full moon.

While I wish the performance was stronger, I think it’s subtly adds to its art. I have a 5 ml of this that I’m going to work through, but this has become a strong contender for full sizing. I haven’t smelled anything like it. And just in time for Halloween!

Melancholy Vamp Juice
I have a lot of thoughts about Nosferatu. First and foremost, the fragrance itself is good. It’s pretty petrichor forward. You really get a nice dose of that wet stone smell which Heretic did very well. It’s accompanied by a lilac that smells faint, wet, and slightly decayed. I have seen some wild claims about this fragrance. From people claiming it smells like cucumbers, to those claiming it smells like paint thinner. To my nose it smells like none of the above and is more wearable than some would make it out to be. I suppose to those used to wearing popular designer fragrances all the time, this might smell odd, but as far as niche goes, this is not even close to being a challenging wear. To me, this smells like a less nuclear, less headache inducing version of ELDO Hermann. Substitute the roses for lilac and remove the copious amounts of ambroxan that Hermann has, and you are in a similar ballpark.

The real horror is the price of this fragrance. $125 for a 30ml bottle is ridiculous. It’s good but it’s not THAT good. The only reason I was able to stomach getting a bottle was because I’m a huge Robert Eggers fan, a horror junkie, and an owner of a mostly black wardrobe. Heretic also spared no expense on the presentation and packaging of this fragrance. The bottle is attractive and there was so much care and attention to detail regarding the full presentation.

If you’re on a tight budget, probably skip this one. If you have the extra cash to spend and you’re a Nosferatu/Horror/Eggers fan, it’s a nice addition to a darker fragrance collection.

Delicate petals in spring clinging to wet stone. A Gothic scent that doesn’t use blood or incense! I wish it lasted longer but I love it so much.

Freshly rained on cement, dead lilacs, grave dirt. Not for me, made me fell unsettled and sick. It's a vampire in a bottle. Hard pass.

She's a mossy girl... Very swampy and faintly floral. Not an every day scent for me but pretty fun for a vampy night out I suppose!

Earthy petrichor and faint, damp florals. More wearable than some make it out to be. Definite goth frag collection staple.

I don’t get cucumber at all. I get lilac and wet stone and am obsessed.

Made me emotional! I'm standing under the bridge of an old Gothic castle, the heaviest rainstorm falling around me, lilacs blooming nearby.

Occasional whiffs of damp springtime rain, the floral is in there but it's blended wonderfully. The scent is cold but comforting

Cold watercolor floral composition. The petrichor note is subtle. The lilac is delicate. White lace & pale skin in the moonlight. Romantic.

Cold mildewy fabric left too long in the washing machine. Thank god it doesn’t last long.
