Very sweet amber
Ambre d'Or starts out very sweet and a little bit dusty, like candied fruit with a touch of Arabian spice. It's no doubt a gourmand at first sight and the top and heart notes are delicious and alluring, if a bit too saccharine for some people's tastes.

The surprise I got, however, was in the drydown, where the perfume shed half its sweetness and a beautiful oriental, resinous, creamy dream revealed itself on my skin. Reminded me of Must de Cartier and Imperial Opoponax, with its vintage air, sensual smooth texture and rich warmth.

It smells like a far-out place, both in time and in space.

Warm Golden Layer
What was the reason I ordered a decant of 'Il Profumo, Ambre d'Or' and now a new flask of it? I did not mention it in my memos. Because I own several amber perfums. Beginning with Ambre Gris by Balmain. Which is completely composed as a whale-amber-fragrance despite of my different amber-scents which are resinous, more or less sweet, spicy, partly with copal-amber bitter-aromatic-wood-scents, dry e. g. My last purchase this spring was Blue Amber by Montale. Who want's to know which I own, might have a look into my collection here.
Before I startet to write this review I read once more all reviews into the German Parfumo. There must be one which attracted me, but no. All of them would have convinced me: Ambre d' Or is not at all the scent I am looking for.
I was looking for an Amber-fragrance like 'L'Artisan, L' Eau d' Ambre which
seemed to be discontinued now.
So typical for me: I'm eager of a perfume, take it into the wish-list and wait, hesitate, weigh off with other wished perfumes, convincing myself: I have some amber-fragrances and don't need one additional. And then? Discontinued or nowhere to buy like L'Eau d'Amber. Not to forget, the scents became meanwhile a lot more expensiv and they are partly slipping out of my budget.
So I ordered two decants. This Ambre d' Or and the new of L'Artisan, L'Eau Ambre Extreme". I pondered, compared the prices to, testet the one an the other and at least: It must be Ambre d' Or because it's just the cozier scent.
At first the different to L'Eau d' Ambre by Artisan: The A'rtisan contained for my opinion a lot of musc. The new L'Eau Ambre Extreme is more dry, tangy and powdery.
Meanwhile the price of Ambre d' Or had increased a lot as well.
That pushed me to search for it. I was more successful in Italy. I got a new and full flacon for a fair amount.
And now the scent: I did and do not perceive what everyone else claimed: Too sweet at the beginning, too much heliotrop, too much vanilla. I perceive immediately the bitter-woody rosewood which lasts all over the longevity like the aromatic spicy scent of sweet myrrh as well. Some sprinkle of citrus might lighten it up.
I consider the heart notes corn-rose and datura as propose to envision, as a special kind of imagination and ambiente affecting Ambre d'Or. This is an individual decision of every single perceiver. But until now not mine.
Because for me "Ambre d' Or" is developing more in a golden, cozy even gently fragrance. I am sure there are also whiffs of patchouli, tonka, vanilla, heliotrop, musc.
Oh, I forgot the listet honey because I did not perceive it. If I would claim it's cistrose/guaiac, something like that. Only patchouli separately stands a little bit out for me, but not pungently spoiling the scent. Ambre d' Or is nestling me into a caressing warm golden light.
I hit for me a lucky making choice.

Il Profumo - Ambre d'Or
.
My Amber No. 127
.
Freshly opened. It bursts into the field with a lively sparkle. With a light tease on the skin and the scent of mandarins in the bottle. A touch of vanilla warms you, the soap feels smooth, and swampy, soupy notes make you seek the closeness of the nearby barn.
.
If you see scent in colors, you now see red. Just a flash. Poppy red in the field and in dreams. Kissable red would fit. And if you see scent in colors, you now see gold. Honey gold. Amber gold.
.
The wind lightly blows through the cracks in the hayloft. Over dark woods. Over light shavings. Over wood wool with a smoky, delicate animalic touch. Over mysterious myrrh - the medicinal plant of the year 2021 - balsamic, spicy, sweet. Into beloved straw. With warm cuddly sex.
.
In affection, perhaps a tad rough, yet with stable longevity.

The Last Rites
Okay, the title sounds worse, but what I want to express is that the scent has an extremely oily consistency and I never want to try something like this again :D
Because you should know that I really dislike oily things on my fingers, so it's always a horror for me when I see people eating chicken with their hands, but NOT using a napkin… and touching everything on the table with their greasy and sticky fingers… uuhhh….

Anyway. The scent, however, turned out to be quite okay, even if I don't find it particularly special. Or rather, not outstanding compared to other amber fragrances.

The scent:
At first, a light amber scent greets you, which is then increasingly overshadowed by resinous, smoky notes. Alongside, there are light, spicy notes, but these remain more in the background.
I'm not so sure about the opium, as I don't know exactly how that smells. Maybe this is the one slightly unfamiliar note that I perceive as more spicy, or I just smell the spices that have become stronger, I can't say for sure.
Later, woods come into play, which settle into the background and form a good base. You can also smell the honey, but you have to get a bit closer to the applied spot for that.
Later, the scent takes a familiar direction, as one often knows from amber fragrances. Heavily sweet with spicy and even very slightly soft-powdery notes.

The longevity and sillage:
I can't say much about the longevity, as I eventually washed off the scent due to its oily consistency…
The sillage didn't seem that strong to me despite being an amber scent. Sure, at first, it's quite noticeable, but then it quickly drops to an average level.

The bottle:
The bottle is nice, but a bit simple. It is rectangular and slightly widens towards the neck. It is filled with a yellow fragrance liquid. The cap is silver or chrome and cylindrical. I particularly like the label, as it features beautiful Corinthian (or Composite? I couldn't tell exactly…) columns as a frame.

Yaaa,… actually, Ambre d’Or is a nicely made amber scent, but it's not particularly outstanding among all the other amber fragrances. I think there are much better ones, like Ambra by Omnia Profumi or Ambre Gris by Balmain.

Additionally, the scent is very oily and thus not only causes greasy fingers (with a splash), but can also leave stains on clothing. Therefore, everyone has to decide for themselves whether they want something like this.
The scent is, as is often the case with amber fragrances, more of an autumn and winter scent, but since it doesn't feel too heavy, it can be used as a daytime fragrance. For going out, even for quieter occasions, it is a bit too unremarkable.

The Love-Hate Relationship
To get straight to the point: the scent itself is stunning. Since I have a preference for amber fragrances anyway, my assessment can only be positive. At first, you clearly notice the sticky sweetness of ripe dates and honey; then woody notes and the namesake amber develop. The fragrance is soft, velvety, and rounded, but also a bit bitter, the composition is absolutely harmonious. It merges with the skin chemistry into an opulence that is unmatched.
Actually.
The perfume contains pure oil instead of the usual alcohol base. I can already hear some of you asking: what does that do to me? Nothing, as long as you have a reputable dry cleaner at your disposal.
I admit that I am a bit set in my ways when it comes to my routines, after all, I'm no longer 20 (to be honest, I'm not even 30 anymore). Shower, dry off, moisturize, style hair, brush teeth, get dressed, apply makeup, perfume. Please in this order, without outside disturbances. And therein lies the rub! With Il Profvmo fragrances, you can't apply them as you normally would. They are greasy.
Silk blouses, light linen dresses, everything with a collar, as well as clothing made from natural materials that can only be hand-washed, lose their prime spot in the home wardrobe. They get permanent stains.
Now I hope for winter. I will stick to my morning ritual as described above and then put on my dark winter turtleneck.
You can't see the grease stains as intensely.
The alternative would be to wear the fragrance in a bikini during the height of summer, then it wouldn't have the chance to leave greasy marks. No, seriously, who needs fussy winter fragrances in the middle of summer? Not me!
I'm looking forward to the cold season and will hide the visual remnants of this wonderful scent under sturdy clothing.

Amber-Myrrh-Honey here as a fragrant trinity. Rather dry-powdery, soft, warm, spicy & never too sweet despite the honey. Dreamy beautiful.

A softer and gentler representative of amber scents (similar to Fehom or Blue amber). H&S are good. Definitely recommendable.

Amazing scent! As an amber fan, I find this fragrance not just good, but fantastic. The combination of myrrh and honey is absolutely brilliant.

I had all my hopes on the myrrh. And it was nothing. Mandarin (extremely) and honey dominate. No trace of ''Ambre''. Quality is okay, ...
