Double "S" I Sweet & Synthetic: unfortunately not living up to the hype...
Thanks to a dear colleague, I received a sample of "Calabria | Gissah / قصة" and I already know the brand from amazing fragrances like "Imperial Valley (Eau de Parfum) | Gissah / قصة", "Capri | Gissah / قصة" and "Akoya | Gissah / قصة". I was all the more curious about Calabria, as the fragrance has been quite hyped in the past. Long story short: First spray, slightly disappointed... hmmm... somehow I expected more.
Anyways, let's get into it:
- The opening is extremely synthetic for me. Apple is always extremely difficult to implement, and here again is proof that apple can be very challenging, as this sweet, synthetic apple note almost overwhelms you. Paired with this bergamot, it does become a bit fresher, but unfortunately not better. For those who enjoy this artificial sweetness, it might be "tastable," but for me, it's just too much.
- After that, this undefinable synthetic sweetness fortunately settles down, and you get a certain lightly fruity powderiness that is more velvety than dry. In the drydown, the fragrance becomes slightly sweet-ambery, well balanced with the vetiver. If you can get through the opening, you can actually hope for a nice fragrance, but the opening is truly a challenge.
- Sillage is very good, projecting well, not a beast, but also not tame. Both longevity and projection are decent.
Overall, a nice fragrance from the middle with a challenging opening, but definitely not worth the hype. There are better fragrances from the house.
