Good, but not good enough, Gissah!
The "Siena Valley | Gissah / قصة" is the latest release from the house as of today, and I must say, I would have almost bought the bottle blindly based on previous reviews. Well, of course, it’s always a matter of taste, but based on the given notes and the description, I expected a bit more edge and character. Where exactly?
Let's get into it:
- The opening consists of a fresh raspberry note that gets the necessary freshness kick from the rosemary. It's already excitingly executed and also the highlight of the fragrance. The opening is really fresh-fruity-revitalizing and wonderfully conceived.
- After that, unfortunately, the fragrance loses me more and more. This light floral note combined with the caramel creates a strange mélange; not that it smells bad, but somehow it feels inconsequential. Neither exciting nor bad, just somehow simply boring. At least for me, it's too boring; my wife finds it at least pleasant. The caramel then increasingly comes through and is rounded off in the drydown by a very light, fine leathery note. However, this is subtle; rather, the patchouli comes through in the drydown in conjunction with the caramel.
- Longevity is fantastic, and projection in the first hours is also great, then the fragrance settles down, but I must say that when it comes to performance, one cannot complain about Gissah in general.
In summary; a nice fragrance yes, and also technically really good, but somehow the fragrance has too little edge and character. I had hoped for a bit more courage; a stronger raspberry note, a sharper leather, yes somehow just more courage, so the fragrance remains rather "pleasantly boring" on the skin...
...the newer releases have often been a disappointment unfortunately, and I hope that the brand focuses a bit more on its core competencies instead of producing mass-appeal fragrances.
