Woe to You If You Don't Like Sloe
Last week, I treated myself to an extensive wellness Friday at a sauna facility with a friend. Among other things, there was an infusion called "Sloe." I know it, but I had never engaged with it olfactorily before.
The infusion with sloe smelled quite aromatic, somewhat fruity sweet, with a sour component.
And so I remarked to my companion that I was surprised, as sloe as a fragrance note hardly appears in any perfume, even though it comes across as very pleasant.
At home, I then checked the Parfumo database again, and indeed there is only one fragrance that contains sloe - and as you can see from the fragrance pyramid above, it is by no means Ginger Pear.
But as luck would have it, two days later I decided to apply Ginger Pear from my decant stock, which immediately reminded me of sloe. I am still searching in vain for ginger and pear, or they just don't seem to penetrate my fragrance synapses.
What crystallizes out are floral and tea aromas, as well as a considerable - perhaps also imagined - portion of beeswax.
Musk might also be in there, but in rather homeopathic doses.
All in all, Ginger Pear is an appealing change, but for me, the titular aspect of ginger and pear remains somewhat closed off.
So, anyone looking for something completely different or who is a fan of sloe will find their solace here - those who are strictly after ginger and pear will be disappointed with Ginger Pear.
