a very unique leather. Peppery, like you're sitting against a sheet medal shed that's being climbed by pungent herbs, next to a freshly burned wood fire pit. It's a fresh leather rather than a heavy one, despite the smoke, and I'm attributing that to the green notes. Fascinating.

I haven't tried this brand before and I'm not sure if this makes me scared to smell more or excited to. Isn't that the joy of perfume?

Benjamin Esposito of New York founded House of Mammoth in 2018. “Independent and artisanal perfumery […] is rebellious in that it exists outside the corporate machine. It doesn’t have to be produced on a large scale using the cheapest materials, nor does it have to appeal to the broadest possible audience,” he writes on Ca fleur bon about the American indie-artisan scene. Not least since he received the Art and Olfaction Award in the “Artisan” category for “Voices” in 2023, he has joined the ranks of artists such as Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, Manuel Cross, Chris Rusak, Shawn Maher, and Diane St. Clair.
“You and I (will die)” won the People's Choice - Artisan Award at the very same Art and Olfaction Awards in 2025, which comes as little surprise given its unusual, multi-layered, yet thoroughly pleasing composition. It opens with sweet, earthy carrot seeds, balanced by tart-seeming herbs, which create a gentle tingling sensation against the Haitian vetiver (the light, mildly tart, root-like variety) that serves as a recurring leitmotif throughout. Violet leaf accentuates slightly damp, leafy notes before smoked woods lay over them in light gray layers, transitioning into smooth, dark, leathery notes, while floral, subtly soapy aldehydes envelop everything in a shimmering haze. Sweet, light jasmine adds a touch of grime and harmonizes with the slightly sulfurous, green musky notes of truffle that emerge in the base, where earthy, woody patchouli somewhat tempers the root-like acidity of the vetiver.
A green, tart, rooty, woody, and earthy fragrance that, in its density, reveals many exciting, subtly iridescent facets, making it suitable for almost any occasion throughout the year.

This smells a bit like you were in a BDSM suit and you just decided to quit the club to go truffle picking. A weird, funny image that popped out in my mind - but it's great. I rated it slightly lower than it should be, just because it doesn't sit well with my own skin - probably a chemical issue, the scent is not to blame.
Carrot seeds are very present in there, getting a peppery effect on my skin. Overall it smells like a smoked leather suit that went mushroom picking, and gets dirty from all the herbs juice. This, and somehow it keeps being a fresh scent during all its evolution. It should be worn by someone with a strong personality.
