Sad girl wistful floral
Mojave Ghost from Byredo is a wistful floral. A little milky, a little woody, a little sad. With a gently soapy violet aspect to it, more like laundry soap than handsoap. Something that you might use to clean a dusty Edwardian frock. It first calls to mind the girls in their frothy ivory dresses from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock, and their mysterious disappearances. It makes me think of ruffles and lace period, I suppose, worn by people who’ve yet to encounter loss or grief. A child who one moment has no concept of death, and then in the next second when they learn of their missing sister who will never return, or their terminally ill relative or a grandparent who died in their sleep...and then with that knowledge that none of us will be here forever and eventually we’re all going to shuffle off of this plane of existence... things are just different. Perhaps we’re not going to disappear into a massive and uncanny geological formation, possibly ushered along by unseen forces (like the Hanging Rock girls) but that our lives will one day end is a certainty. Mojave Ghost smells like the moment just after you’ve come by this information, and you know you are never again going to be as happy as you were before you knew it.

Byredo doing Byredo Things
Mojave Ghost is one of two Byredo fragrances that I deemed full bottle worthy. They just do subtle and clean smelling fragrances better than a lot of companies out there.

The opening to MG is pretty unique with the sapodilla fruit note. It then goes into some florals in the heart and ultimately dries down to a very creamy sandalwood.

Clean, natural, luxury are the words that come to mind when I smell it. It’s perfect for the office or daily wear. It’s for someone who doesn’t want to announce to the world they are wearing a fragrance, but wants to smell nice for themselves and their loved ones when they give them a hug.

Most of the moaning and groaning about the performance is confusing to me. I’ve never personally had issues with Mojave Ghost disappearing on me too quickly. I had someone compliment me on it at work about 7 hours into my shift and I’m not an over sprayer. One spray on the back of my neck, one spray on each forearm, and one spray on my shirt. Gives me about 8 hours of longevity with moderate projection for a couple hours and light projection the rest of the wear. I’ve noticed it is a pretty unique scent profile, so even in the latter part of the wear, if you walk past someone it gets noticed.

the elusive mojave ghost
"mojave ghost" is such a suitable name for this fragrance. every whiff you take is captivating and ephemeral, yet the memory of it is gone in a blink. i've never smelled sapodilla before, but i imagine that's what makes this perfume so unique and addictive; it's green, fresh and sort of floral... very light on the nose.

regardless, it is SO expensive! i love this scent (and the little snap-on magnetic cap on the bottle) but i just can't justify paying so much for something so gentle and unpolarizing.

phantom of the Aman
The perfect white tee of fragrance. Dress it up, down, to work, to bed, to the gym. My most-worn scent to date. It’s even the scent I go to if I have a headache. MoGho is a cool rooftop evening in a bottle. Calm, airy, and perfectly unisex, without a hint of the “laundry” notes common to most clean fragrances.

There’s some spectral magnolias, a clear white musk, and – above it all – barely ripe D’anjou pears. I know it’s nowhere in the notes, but I get this crisp, green pear note, which I can only assume is the sapodilla. I’ve been spiritizing MoGho for almost six years, but still have yet to get my hands on one to confirm. MoGho is Marc Jacobs's Daisy, but all grown up into an androgynous minimalist. (And I mean that as the highest compliment).

For performance, I’d say it’s your average Byredo. I get two hours on skin, but almost eight hours in fabric. Maybe that’s ghostly for some, but for a wear-to-work fragrance I think it’s just right. That said, if they came out with an immortally clingy reformulation, I’d still be dousing myself in it.

Mental Snapshot: Amangiri. I’ve never been, but MoGho smells like what I imagine Amangiri might. A stone-block oasis framed with sweeping desert panoramas, best enjoyed draped within a spa robe. I think I stand a greater chance of smelling a sapodilla than Amangiri, but will report back if I do.

tl;dr: phantom of the Aman ️

Masterpiece!
I have a dupe of this and its my most worn and favourite fragrance so far! It was amazing to wear this in the spring time and I will wear it in fall as well. For the hot summer time it was lacking something citrusy or aquatic for me but it totally blooms between temperatures 15-25 C degrees. The main note I get is ambrette which I absolutely love. It is a fresh fruity ambrette similar to Le Labo Ambrette 9. One might say it smells like fresh pears. Its pretty linear, which I prefer. Unfortunately it lasts not more than 2 hours.
I will try the Jasmin Secret next, which is supposed to be very similar.

The perfect "are they fresh out of the shower or are they wearing perfume" scent. Fresh, a little floral, a little woody, inoffensive

Gentle sweet floral - I enjoyed it a bit more in the spring than I do on this hot August day. Definitely will revisit when it cools off.

Conjures images of drinking iced cucumber and lemon water at a fancy spa. Light, fresh and clean but still pretty. Lovely in Spring.

Wonderful scent for spring - early autumn. To my nose, it acts exactly like a "ghost": a feminine, woody-sweet smell that comes and goes

Perfect as "unisex". Great for couples to wear together. On cold days, it turns into a strange plastic odor. But in other seasons, beutiful.
