Byredo doing Byredo Things
Mojave Ghost is one of two Byredo fragrances that I deemed full bottle worthy. They just do subtle and clean smelling fragrances better than a lot of companies out there.

The opening to MG is pretty unique with the sapodilla fruit note. It then goes into some florals in the heart and ultimately dries down to a very creamy sandalwood.

Clean, natural, luxury are the words that come to mind when I smell it. It’s perfect for the office or daily wear. It’s for someone who doesn’t want to announce to the world they are wearing a fragrance, but wants to smell nice for themselves and their loved ones when they give them a hug.

Most of the moaning and groaning about the performance is confusing to me. I’ve never personally had issues with Mojave Ghost disappearing on me too quickly. I had someone compliment me on it at work about 7 hours into my shift and I’m not an over sprayer. One spray on the back of my neck, one spray on each forearm, and one spray on my shirt. Gives me about 8 hours of longevity with moderate projection for a couple hours and light projection the rest of the wear. I’ve noticed it is a pretty unique scent profile, so even in the latter part of the wear, if you walk past someone it gets noticed.

Sweet little ghost
Actually, there is Sapodilla or Nesberry in the top notes. This tropical fruit note brings lingering sweetness to make sure MG doesn't turn into just another musky woody perfume.

Then violet comes; adding this shadowy, floaty and a little mysterious vibes like a "ghost" vibe! and the name "ghost" suddenly makes sense! It is soft yet adds some depth to this perfume making it charming.

MG shines so bright in hot weather. It clings to your clothes for a solid 24 hours and floats around you like a sweet little aura.

This is very unisex, imo. Musky and woody notes balance the feminine energy that violet and magnolia bring while the Sapodilla keeps it vibrant.

Everyday favourite
What can I say about Mojave Ghost that hasn't already been said?

Usually, I'm left feeling underwhelmed with "clean" scents. Why would I pay a premium just to smell like body wash or laundry detergent? But Mojave Ghost pulls it off. It's snuggling in the fresh sheets at a high end hotel, while eating a bowl of exotic fruit (I've never tasted prickly pear, so don't know if it's like that, but it's something like watermelon/pear/raspberry -- something of a tutti frutti quality to it).

The longevity is solid -- about 3-4 hours of moderate projection, before settling down and eventually disappearing at the 5-6 hour mark. Really, this lightness is part of the charm.

It makes me feel light and put together, ready to take on the day. In a very rare moment for me, I bought a full bottle a week after only smelling it in the store, without going through a tester decant first to make sure. I guess it truly does haunt you.

Sad girl wistful floral
Mojave Ghost from Byredo is a wistful floral. A little milky, a little woody, a little sad. With a gently soapy violet aspect to it, more like laundry soap than handsoap. Something that you might use to clean a dusty Edwardian frock. It first calls to mind the girls in their frothy ivory dresses from the film Picnic at Hanging Rock, and their mysterious disappearances. It makes me think of ruffles and lace period, I suppose, worn by people who’ve yet to encounter loss or grief. A child who one moment has no concept of death, and then in the next second when they learn of their missing sister who will never return, or their terminally ill relative or a grandparent who died in their sleep...and then with that knowledge that none of us will be here forever and eventually we’re all going to shuffle off of this plane of existence... things are just different. Perhaps we’re not going to disappear into a massive and uncanny geological formation, possibly ushered along by unseen forces (like the Hanging Rock girls) but that our lives will one day end is a certainty. Mojave Ghost smells like the moment just after you’ve come by this information, and you know you are never again going to be as happy as you were before you knew it.

Lovely and hard to describe
This is one of those you have to experience to understand that the scent notes are not enough to really decide where the scent will take you. Luxury hotel lobby is what comes to mind when I wear this perfume. It has a clean, floral sweetness and cozy feeling that makes you feel warm. It’s not overly sweet though, it’s more creamy and toned down which ends up affecting the performance. Byredo is for people who don’t want or care for others to smell their scent. I don’t mind a skin scent every so often, but this is way too weak unfortunately.

Marc Jacobs's Daisy, but all grown up into an androgynous minimalist. (And I mean that as the highest compliment).

Beautiful scent! Beautifully floral-fresh. Not a masterpiece, but one of those smells you just can't go wrong with: recommended for summer

The perfect "are they fresh out of the shower or are they wearing perfume" scent. Fresh, a little floral, a little woody, inoffensive

Smells like my hair when I haven’t showered for a couple of days and I use fancy dry shampoo to try to mask the too-human scent.

Gentle sweet floral - I enjoyed it a bit more in the spring than I do on this hot August day. Definitely will revisit when it cools off.

A wet, floral, diaphanous scent that borders on soapy-shampoo that isn’t too sweet or pointed in any direction. On all fronts neutral. Nice!

Conjures images of drinking iced cucumber and lemon water at a fancy spa. Light, fresh and clean but still pretty. Lovely in Spring.
