My house on the lake
The lake house was my dream from the first moment I saw it. The previous owner, a colonel in the army (retired), had passed away and the heirs didn't want it, so I struck out. Santal Oyster is a fairly linear sandalwood scent for me, without a lot of frills. It starts off with sweet, subtly spicy and warm resin notes with the Mysore sandalwood mixed in almost immediately. This is very spicy and with a strong sticky note. It's also not creamy or powdery to my mind, but quite dry. On top of that, there is some oud. This is also dry-woody with a slight - really very slight - medicinal tinge. But the star is the sandalwood, the resins and the oud only support. So the fragrance also remains quite linear.
The sandalwood reminds me of the kind in the Santal Noble of Maître Parfumeur et Gantier. There, however, it is integrated into many other notes and tamed, while it comes in the Santal Oyster much more immediate, direct and unbridled. You certainly have to like that.
Towards the base, the fragrance doesn't change much, it just gets visibly softer. The spicy glue note reduces somewhat, but remains recognizable. Only after about 3 hours join a few small beavers, make the fragrance warmer, softer and minimally animalic. So they are very nice beavers, no need to blow them up. Patch I can not detect.
By the way, Maher Olfactive's perfumes are cruelty-free, so the beaver scent is artificial. Santal oyster is a good quality sandalwood fragrance, far from the creamy powdery sandal boondoggle that is usually served.
