Galbanum and hay. Instant love!

I don't know what a horse race is supposed to smell like, because I've never witnessed one in person, but I can't imagine anything else than dust blown by unleashed hooves, jockeys in a frenzy, tanned leather, noise, tension at its peak and bettors' nails bitten to the flesh.

Derby smells different. Of wild horses quietly descending the slopes at the foothills of the Iranian Damavand, in the whisper of the clear, fast-flowing waters of the Haraz River, amid the flowering galbanum shrubs that color the mountain yellow.

The mountain is left behind, and the horses stop beside endless fields full, full of hay bales. Forgive me, Mr. Serge, but I've never encountered such a note of hay even in your Chergui!

What more is there to say? Instant love! Can't wait for my bottle to arrive...

Racecourse scent.

It's a light, easy, masculine scent, "very Italian," in the Aqua di Parma style, but with a bit more substance and depth. It smells a bit like a horse enclosure, with the funk of manure dialed down considerably. It's a green scent, like hay and meadow flowers, a perfect masculine summer fragrance. Pleasant, but not remarkable. However, the price for this house is very decent, so it's a really good bargain for simple, clean, easy to wear and understand perfumes.

Este o aromă ușoară, bărbătească, foarte Italiană, în stilul Aqua di Parma dar cu mult mai multă substanță și profunzime. Parfum Italian inconfundabil. Chiar miroase ca o incintă pentru cai sau la fel ca și cortul de circ unde sunt ținuți elefanții, dar într-un mod foarte plăcut. Miroase verde, a fân, a flori proaspăt uscate, și cu doar o țâră, o picătură mică, mică de balegă care nu supără, ci adaugă la idea de natură, de pistă de curse de cai. Imi pot închipui un bărbat purtând această colonie de vară in timpul zilei, pe caniculă. E plăcut, deși nu foarte remarcabil. Dar prețul este foarte decent, fără obrăznicie, pentru ceea ce îți oferă. Siaj și persistență moderate.

Best wishes to all women

More than a racecourse, it makes me think of an Iranian park where galbanum plants and mimosa trees grow spontaneously. The beginning gives us the bitter green note of galbanum accompanied by violet and a hint of lavender, but it is the citrus note that does justice to the natural scent of mandarin. After this first phase, which lasts half a minute, the fragrance loses intensity, is graceful and remains so for the entire time. The essence that develops subsequently is that of mimosa, which is the dominant one, with other flowers such as ylang ylang in the background. Already at this point (so 5 minutes have passed since I sprayed it) the perfume is very faint and to detect it, you need to bring your nose less than 5 cm from the skin. I can't smell the base notes listed here and on the official Milano Fragranze website: no vetiver, no oakmoss (absolutely), perhaps a hint of sandalwood, detected by placing the nose on the skin. Basically it is a delicate mimosa perfume, to give as a gift for women's day. P.S. : i take this opportunity to wish all women a wish and underline their very important role.

Lovely spicy, resinous, fougere-type, new but classic

Milano Fragranze Derby is a spicy, semi-herbal, semi-fresh blend that has an immediately classic vibe, inspired by a horse race course, consisting of resins, sharp florals (lavender, violet), patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, and oakmoss. It definitely has the “late 20th century men’s signature scent” concept and does it quite effectively, and in a way that is fairly unique, not resembling another specific scent that I can recall, while nonetheless feeling a part of a grander tradition, rendering it a bit relatable despite its own character. It manages to achieve a spicy concept without using any spices per se, either, furthering sort of lavender-first fougere idea, and it walks the lien effectively between being a bit provocative and also being comforting, familiar, and somewhat easy to wear. The rather loud opening settles down quite a lot within an hour, and it’s a scent I meant even wear on a summer night, just perhaps not a summer day.

Overall, it’s an instant love, and I’m very impressed. Of the four I’ve tried, Derby and Basilica are my favorites. Derby, like the rest of the line, is priced at $135 for 100ml, in EDP concentration, a very reasonable price in the current market, and is sold at great boutiques like Perfumology that also sell the Masque Milano line.
