Italian citrus + French soap
This is a summer perfume that ironically smells great on me only in winter. In winter: the Italian citrus and French milled soap are a clean, fresh combination that makes me think clean, well-groomed Italian man. Summer: it starts off the same, but after 10-15 minutes it starts to sour and smell questionable. It could just be my skin pH; you might not necessarily have the same experience.

The canals of Milan
Imagine accompanying your grandmother, during the first half of the last century, to the river with the excuse of wanting to help her wash the clothes, but in reality wanting to play with the water and have fun pulling some bergamots from the plants. The union of soap (not Marseille) and neroli is bathed in bergamot juice which makes the sensation of cleansing fresher. Minutes pass and while the bergamot is eclipsed, a low volume lavender arrives to still make the fragrance fresh, but in a different way. After 2 and a half or 3 hours the projection decreases and the neroli note begins to be almost undetectable on the contrary of the soap which at this point appears mixed with cedar wood and vetiver (present in limited quantities).
At the same time, a light aquatic note appears, as if the grandmother had finished her job by hanging out the unwrung laundry on a nearby pile of wood. In the finish the scent is much more masculine.
P.S. : after 12 hours you can still feel, 10 cm from the skin, an excellent combo of vetiver-cedar wood-soap in which vetiver prevails.

Agreeable aquatic, fresh but with a little edge
Naviglio is the last sample of my Milano Fragranze sample set, a soapy aquatic that mixes a bit of dirty seawater with a clean cologne concept, involving citruses, lavender, petitgrain, vetiver, and cedar. It’s immediately very interesting and an easy-to-wear marine scent that nevertheless is interesting, particularly in how it balances the clean vs. dirty aspect, generally the great challenge of marine scents, making them realistic have some of the “dirty” aspects of seawater while at the same time being a palatable, refreshing fragrance.

Naviglio achieves this very well and becomes one of reliable favorites, like Imaginary Authors Every Storm a Serenade (which leans dirtier, with its prominent calone note), Nautica Oceans (which is cleaner, more of a saltier freshwater vibe), Tom Ford Costa Azzurra (comparably dirty, but saltier/sharper, with driftwood and seaweed), and Dua Flagship (which is sweeter/muskier), though I’m sure I’m leaving out others. Naviglio is a nice option among these, fairly easy to wear relative to some aquatics while still having its own vibe.

Naviglio, like the rest of the Milano Fragranze line, is priced at $135 for 100ml, which I maintain is pretty outstanding in the current market, and certainly more accessible than the Masque Milano line, which has similar bottle prices as the 35ml size. Milano Fragranze is sold at boutiques like Perfumology, where I bought my sample set.

It’s been really fun working through the sample set of eight, and I look forward to trying to the newer releases as well.

A Walk Along the Grand Canal
Train journey with now 120 minutes delay and a lot of downtime:
the perfect time for my second review here. Today it’s about Naviglio, the scent I am currently wearing - while sitting on the train.

This fragrance is also a souvenir from the USA, where I searched for my new summer scent in a dreamy niche perfumery among dozens of fragrances (more about that in my first review of Gallagher’s O‘Vert).
The sales assistant casually asked me if I liked soapy scents. Immediately, I thought of my experiences with iris bombs from Prada, which I love on others but become too much for me on my skin after just a few minutes. “Depends” was my answer, and he had already sprayed Naviglio on a strip. Right after spraying, I was transported back to my vacation in Venice five years ago: walking along the Grand Canal after showering in the hotel, that’s how this little paper strip between my fingers smelled. So I sprayed it on my wrist and tested it throughout the day. Quite often in the following hours, I caught myself smelling my wrist, and each time positive vacation emotions surfaced. So I had almost no choice but to purchase the fragrance the very next day, and what can I say, I haven’t regretted it to this day. It is the ideal companion for the airplane, train, at the station, or when you just want to smell clean. Nevertheless, it smells very high-quality, and I would wear it without hesitation at special events because it absolutely brings the “sophisticated quality” (especially when it’s really hot and you don’t feel like juicy citrus, this would be my first choice).
The soapy accord, which is initially accompanied by a bit of citrus, neroli, and lavender (for me, the lavender is clearly present from the first second), remains the focus throughout. Over time, the aforementioned notes are replaced by white musk and slightly aquatic notes, which give it a certain transparency without smelling synthetic (a feat that, in my opinion, far too few “aquatic notes” actually achieve). It lasts through an entire workday, even though it comes closer to the skin after initially solid projection (which is good for my intended uses).
The bottle is top-notch, the cap is very heavy (that’s how heavy I always imagined the PdM caps, I find them rather average) and magnetic, the glass is extra thick to protect the perfume from external influences, and the old-school design fits very well with the fragrance, which, with the prominent notes of neroli and lavender, might smell “too old” to some.

Overall, a super high-quality soapy scent with a great bottle and good value for money. Those who don’t like “classic” fragrances or are looking for something super exciting might not be happy here.
People who find Prada and Co not soapy enough and fans of classic colognes will get their money's worth here.

Blast of laundry detergent (neroli + soap), moderate petitgrain (green-spicy twist) & lavender in mid; vetiver in drydown. Not aquatic tho.

Starts off as a soap smell. After hours develops into unexpected cedarwood and vetiver mix. Like a different scent. Pleasantly surprised

Sunny and bright fragrance. Those soapy vibes are well balanced with fresh herb ones. Good vibes. low/meduum duration. approved tho!

Italian, cologne-like, but not distinctly masculine. Citrus over flowers over woods, a bit green and slightly aquatic.

Fresh, pleasant opening. I imagined Naviglio to be more soapy, more of a green clean scent. Sillage isn't extreme, quickly becomes close to the skin.
