Festival night or funfair day?
Even though I'm always on the lookout for a good cheapie, I never gave much thought to the Hollister fragrance range, until I read some positive reviews about Festival Nite. And while it's not the most mind-blowing fragrance ever, it certainly didn't disappoint.
The strongest notes are blackcurrant and marshmallow. It's a nice contrast: The currant is a little tart and almost boozy. Together with the mandarin orange, it feels very juicy and fresh. The marshmallow on the other hand is sweet, dense and a bit dry, just like the texture of a real unmelted marshmallow feels. Vanilla is a defining note here, too, even though I can't say for sure where the vanilla begins and where the marshmallow ends (surely they use vanillic notes to emulate marshmallows anyways, so it doesn't really matter). There is a slight cleanliness to the scent, but it's subtle. Maybe that's the apple blossom?
I really enjoy the powdery gourmand aspects together with the tangy currants, but at times I find the overall impression a tiny bit too cloying to fall in love with it.
Otherwise it's a nice scent for the price. It reminds me of summer the most, but it could easily be worn all year round. Despite the name I think this is more of a daytime scent, and not really what comes to my mind when I think of festivals. I mean it's not even a roasted, campfire-esque Marshmallow! For a festival, I would either chose something very light and refreshing, or a bit hippie-esque, not a fruity vanilla like this. It would be better suited for a funfair or a casual birthday party.
