The Red Flood
Joop Homme is so out that it’s almost in again. Strange, why this super-sillage classic, long labeled as a gay scent, hasn’t been completely discovered by the candy perfume generation, Facebook, One Million & Metrosexuality. For me, it’s still by far the best Joop fragrance. Red Force is a cheap but surprisingly accurate copy of the pink brother. Sure, there are heavier things than copying this synthetic bomb, even with the cheapest means, but at least the goal has been satisfactorily achieved here.
Gifted by distant family, actually just well-intentioned, it obviously doesn’t have a long lifespan against the original or in my collection in general. It will probably be re-gifted quickly. But at least I don’t have to feel guilty about it, as the scent fits for a €5 duplicate. For young (or young-at-heart) fans of the original who want to save even more money & can live with a little less volume in the fragrance, this red force is surely usable. It is really berry-like, super sweet & olfactorily represents the color red/pink quite well. Straight from the chemistry lab, but definitely reddish & sticky. The simplest fragrance formula: orange blossom + vanilla + X (red fruit) - unusually intense for a men’s fragrance, a revolution back then, now almost normal. Good development? Terrible development? Everyone has to decide for themselves!
Bottle: simple & only for large hands.
Longevity: not as long as its predecessor - but 7 hours still work.
Sillage: also here under its potency-monster father, but still suitable for going out.
Conclusion: for the price, this Joop Homme copy is acceptable. You just have to live with the fact that the already synthetic party classic here scratches a bit more, stings & runs less smoothly.
