The blackcurrant scent of blackcurrant fragrances
I already knew this scent before my time at Parfumo. It was part of the best Advent calendar I ever had - 24 samples carefully and lovingly selected, packed together with chocolates in small colorful fabric bags. The chocolates were quickly eaten, but the fragrance samples accompanied me for almost a year.
I believe that’s how I ended up at Parfumo.
"Cassis" was one of my favorites from the calendar. It was clear that I always perked up whenever I read somewhere: The scent smells like blackcurrant. "Enchanted Forest" found its way into my collection this way, but not primarily because of the blackcurrant that is also in it.
But it couldn’t be that the first blackcurrant scent is also the best. There must be more to come, right? - So far, no. With my headline, I respond to KingLui's comment: This is also for me the ultimate Cassis scent of all those tested so far.
This is because countless fragrances list blackcurrant as a note - but what you smell is something indefinably berry-fruity that has nothing to do with the unmistakable scent of real blackcurrants.
In other fragrances I have tested, there is indeed Cassis, but either not dominant enough or combined with other notes that don’t suit me as well. Or a type of blackcurrants that lack freshness and juiciness, having only a dried concentrate.
What Ergoproxy wrote in his statement is true: In "Cassis," all aspects of the blackcurrant bush are present:
- The juicy tartness of fresh blackcurrants with a delicate hint of a slightly bitter tannin note. And KingLui is right: a bit of minty sharpness is also characteristic of the scent of blackcurrants.
- The green of the leaves on the bush, which, when crushed between the fingers, have nothing sweet about them.
- The wood that, when chopped, carries the scent of the fruit within it, but is spicier, stricter, and slightly resinous.
Fortunately, I don’t smell musk.
For me, one of my favorite scents. And Mr. Pritzkoleit wants to discontinue it. His website states that it will still be available for Christmas, but not after that. I hope he writes that every year for marketing purposes and doesn’t mean it seriously. Because from my perspective, he would be eliminating the best of his fragrances.
So: Test it out before it’s too late! Or tell me of a better one!
