Hinoki in Hinoki Scents of Wood 2022

This is one of those smells that will instantly take you on a journey. It smells like a fresh cut Christmas tree.

It is definitely not a one note fragrance though. I detect the spiciness of clove and incense.

I will say, this one feels very masculine to me. But in a good way. Very attractively masculine and strong. I want to go on a forest hike with this man and watch him chop firewood.

First thing I notice is the thyme. So beautiful and aromatic. Then at once, a bloom of woods and mosses fills your senses. If we want to talk about sophistication, this is so beautiful. It smells like a luxe sauna, without trying too hard. You can picture a rainy forest, while you're submerged in a hot spring.

I will say, on me it didn't last that long which was a bit of a let down! But I find this to be really gorgeous.

No other way to describe this other than to say I smell like a Christmas tree farm, but in a classy way. Not the usual Yankee Candle, sharp, heavy spruce and pine take on a Christmas tree farm, which is unfortunately what I usually get out of scents like this. I was very pleased that this seems to be a more complex, layered take on that coniferous smell.

This would be a great pick for the nature-loving hiker/camper in your life, or someone who loves the vibes of winter and Christmas but doesn't want to smell like a cookie or a candle. I might pick up a full bottle if I can find it on sale somewhere.

Woody, incense-y, and fresh in the most relaxing way. With all the green and spice notes, nothing in this is overpowering and it's difficult to pick out a lot of specific notes as they're all beautifully blended together to give the overall impression of hinoki, or at least how I imagine hinoki would smell like compared to other woods (including other types of cypress). The dry down is beautiful and what turns my liking of this fragrance into loving it. Smooth and uplifting - even a bit therapeutic. One of the best fragrances I've smelled from Scents of Wood.

A very relaxing, therapeutically calming cypress and incense scent. A bit dry, quite aromatic, slightly coniferous. Thyme is very light, doesn't venture into the "kitchen herbs" territory. Doesn't smell like hinoki at all, but I don't really like hinoki as a note anyway, so it's a win for me. The cypress note is more like pine tree than actual cypress. The dryness of cedar underneath reminds me a bit of Blood Cedar by Heretic parfum, which is one of my favorite scents. Overall, is it "Hinoki in Hinoki"? No. Is it a very nice aromatic woody scent? Yes!
