Sandalwood in Oak Scents of Wood 2021

This perfume doesn’t smell musky or of body odor on me. It’s woody, yes, but also quite creamy. The caramel sweetens the wood, which makes it wearable for any occasion, in my opinion.
I don’t think it’s overwhelming at all, but I am mindful as to how much perfume I spray for an occasion. That could be why.

I think it’s absolutely beautiful. I don’t normally like wood-based perfumes, but this one here is incredible.

The only thing I notice at first that is odd is the smell of pickle juice at first spray. It goes away very quickly. That’s when the creamy sweetness begins.

A very mild, enveloping musky-woody scent with just a hint of natural sweetness. It opens with a touch of pepper and aromatic sage, giving it a slightly herbal freshness before settling into a smooth woody heart.

The creamy sandalwood creates a beautiful contrast with the dry, slightly smoky guaiac wood. Clean, velvety musk ties everything together, while a small touch of vanilla softens the woods and keeps them from becoming too austere.

The overall character is aromatic, woody, spiritual, and meditative. This is the kind of fragrance that makes you want to sit cross-legged on a mountaintop and contemplate life's mysteries.

It's a wonderfully grounding scent, perfect for yoga, meditation, or simply unwinding after a long day.

It's calming, comforting, and easy to wear. My only complaint is the performance. You'll probably need to get fairly close to appreciate it, but what's there smells lovely.

Sandalwood in Oak has a nice opening of caramel, pink pepper, and woods. The caramel and pepper doesn't last long on my skin and the first time I tried this I didn't even notice them. That's alright, though, because this is still a really nice woody fragrance of sandalwood and gaiac. Both are prominent from the opening to the dry down. I only get a faint hint of vanilla in this, but I do notice and love the soft frankincense and creamy orris that really compliment the woody notes. I'm reminded of Gaiac 10 by Le Labo or a less smoky You Doux by Glossier. It's a cozy and elegant woody scent similar to a few others I've tried that use gaiac with resinous and creamy notes, but it's done very well. It's a little pricy, but the bottle is really creative and the longevity is good with moderate sillage that makes this more than a skin scent.

Scents of Wood Sandalwood in Oak is an appropriately more woods-focused blend that nonetheless has a boozy aspect from the aging process in barrels that inspires the scent and many others in the house’s now-rather-extensive catalogue. Sandalwood mixes with guaiacwood, sage, burnt sugar, pepper, and vanilla. It’s a bit resinous, slightly sweet/smoky/spicy, all while having the blend of woods as its main centering characteristic. There’s a vaguely syrupy, peppery gourmand quality to it even though it’s far more a woody/smoky/resinous blend. As with the rest of the house’s creations here, the quality is very high and the performance above average, even at this price point and for a generally cool-weather-leaning scent.

Like the rest of the line, the current full bottle 75ml pricing is $240. The 10ml size that I bought is now priced at $55, formerly $38, so a sizable increase, albeit now with a nice box, but I still quite prefer the option of buying the smaller size as a form of both an extended test as well as travel size, particularly if the only other option is a bottle that’s $200+.

This woodsy and musk filled scent is not a traditional crowd pleasing smell, but would suit the person who enjoys sandlewood, musk, deep scents. It works well for the night. It does throw and have a sillage that is wide and longlasting, it is not a subtle office place scent. I would recommend this for a night out, and for a personality that doesn't mind standing out being a bit controversial. ie My dad doesn't like musk in most perfumes, he correlates musk and Oud with BO. so not everyone will like this scent, and not everyone will like YOU wearing it. But I am very happy with this scent and I enjoy the smell and wearing it.
