Very nice, subtle and well blended rose/oud
A lot of the ”all natural” indies seem to use good materials. However, a lot of them don’t really seem to have the “know how” on how to blend them properly. The result being a very expensive mess. Like a soup of ingredients.
Sherwood, I would say is an exception. Even though not a perfumer the blend is excellent. I managed to find a sample set even though he doesn’t offer them and have tried a lot of them.
In my personal collection I have rosarium (both the attar and the perfume, Gentleman and Paradise).
Rosarium is like the name suggests- first and foremost a very good rose-fragrance. It was originally crafted as a bespoke perfume for a client and then became available more broadly. Broadly here meaning limited but not a one-off.
Unlike the other indies (ALD, Ensar et al) Sherwood is very reasonable priced. And rosarium is no exception. I think I paid 130 USD for it (plus shipping from India).
It starts with a lemon and taif rose that smacks you deeply. It is not a “in your face” projection but so well done that the opening really stands out. Lingering behind is a very good oud that is subtle enough not to steal the entire show. After all - this is a rose-oud. Not a oud/rose.
Although this perfume has a lot of ingredients, none of them stands out too much but rather compliments the backbone of rose with a beautiful citrusy shadow accompanied by the oud. The jasmin and iris is very downplayed. So is the woodsy notes and the (aged) patchouli.
This is a very fine tuned fragrance indeed.
If I was to compare it to something I would say it is a much much more elegant Bortnikoff Triad. Or a “all natural version” of Rojas Amber aoud.
