Interesting Facts

The Sora Dora brand, named after Portuguese immigrant Antoine Soradora, who was born in 1902 in Loulé, a small town in southern Portugal, represents a French perfume company that is now in its fourth generation. In 2021, the first collection of fragrances was released under this brand name.

Antoine's parents, deeply religious and working as farmers, had a significant influence on his childhood. His family saw in him the potential to become a priest due to his level-headed and thoughtful nature.

Nevertheless, Antoine had a passion for scents and aromas. Nature and its smells, whether lavender, freshly cut grass, or flowers, fascinated him and shaped his senses.

In 1920, on his 18th birthday, Antoine faced a crucial choice. He could either follow his parents' predetermined path as a farmer or take the plunge, leave his country, and make his own way in life.

An invitation from his friend Sandro, who told him that France was looking for workers for mining companies, piqued Antoine's interest. He left his homeland and made his way to Gréasque, a small village in southeastern France.

In Gréasque, Antoine was welcomed by a local family and given a modest garden shed as accommodation. Here, he transformed the fallow land into a flourishing garden full of fruit trees, flowers, and a variety of aromatic plants.

Between his work in the mine and tending to the garden, Antoine found time to explore the region. That's how he discovered the town of Grasse.

There he met Etienne, an experienced jasmine grower who became his mentor and friend. Together they began to explore and develop the art of perfume making. The proceeds from jasmine cultivation gave them the freedom to purchase all the materials they needed for their research.

After his friend's death, Antoine took over the project and created his first perfume just one year after taking over the studio. Shortly thereafter, he met Rose, the love of his life, who became his wife. They had three daughters: Jany, Claudie, and Marie-Rose, to whom he passed on his knowledge and passion for perfume making.
