I have contradicting and inconsistent impressions of this fragrance: fitting for a perfume designed to capture the complexities of a human being, let alone a child. The through line is oily and sweet. If you want a simple opinion, there it is. Oily. Sweet.
Onto the revelations. I’m learning that leather is a tricky note for me. Often, my nose reads it as greasy and plastic without the smooth, comforting nuances of skin. Such is the case here, but ginger saves it from becoming garishly unctuous. Fig, caramel, and cherry combined without hierarchy is too drippingly saccharine for my tastes. And the oleaginous coating to this gooey dessert doesn’t help negate the claims of cloying. However—fair warning, this is where I lose sensibility—there is also something remarkably developed in the body of this perfume.
Under oiliness and sticky syrup, there’s rubber, tread, and holographic bubbles. I won’t try to talk around it: It smells like a car wash. And I’m losing my mind because I’m begging everyone around me to smell the car wash too. See, in the corners, that’s the rainbow sludge melting off tires! There! There! that’s 25¢/minute black cherry carpet spray! It feels like a dream. Leporids should not be near Rain-X.
