From zero to hero
Just a quick note: I wasn't familiar with the brand or the perfumer before.
When we strolled into one of the many niche perfumeries near Marienplatz in Munich (actually in search of 2 other fragrances from a different brand), we discovered the scents of Toni Cabal.
It hit us completely unexpectedly:
Wow! This is real niche!! All the fragrances were a new, finally varied experience for our noses! You know the standard "niche brands" like Xerjoff, Terenzi, MFK, and co. While they all have their own scents, they somehow resemble each other. We smelled the well-known and lesser-known representatives of each brand and thought only, "Man, this feels familiar. I've smelled this before" or "smells good, but not special enough".
Then the owner of the perfumery showed us the fragrances from Toni Cabal. It was a little personal mission for her, as she really likes the scents and celebrates the perfumer.
Before I buy a fragrance, I try to find more about the performance on Parfumo. Because, as is often the case, sellers say for every fragrance: "it lasts until the next day! Even beyond that!" I once made the mistake of believing that and fell for the trick. Since then, I've started to "play it safe" beforehand. Usually, the community is right when it comes to longevity/sillage.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any entries yet. I really had a bad feeling in my stomach at first, as I was afraid of being sold something again. On the other hand, I liked the scent so much right away that I didn't want to leave it sitting on the shelf. And as a seasoned fragrance addict, you can already smell whether the fragrance has power or not after spraying it.
So I took the risk and bought it. 175€ for 100ml is a very fair price! Almost "cheap" for niche.
We let the owner explain to us how Mr. Cabal creates his scent essences. Really impressive, still genuine handwork from a very small, selected team. And I must say, you can smell the quality! She had told us earlier how the fragrances are made, and I suspected a price beyond 250€, as is often the case with small-batch products.
I haven't regretted the purchase since! I wore the fragrance the very next morning, and even in the evening, it was still quite noticeable! After a long workday, that's really impressive for such a "small," still unknown brand! Until now, I had only known such longevity from well-known beast mode fragrances like "Naxos | XerJoff," "Ombre Nomade | Louis Vuitton," or "Erba Pura | XerJoff"!
Long story short, how does the fragrance smell now?
To put it briefly: like a creamy Pina Colada!
Later on, the fragrance smells like a very expensive hand cream, with a coconut scent! Really insane!
And despite the initially "feminine" fragrance direction, the scent is really very unisex, which one might not suspect at first glance at the notes.
The coconut used is a very natural coconut note, not overpowering yet not too subdued! Really well balanced! And above all, not synthetic, as one might know from fragrances like "Malibù - Party In The Bay | Simone Andreoli" or Fan Your Flames.
It must be clearly mentioned that this fragrance is only for people who love and enjoy coconut scents.
But: even my girlfriend, who is not a fan of coconut at all, was immediately smitten by this fragrance!
After my first own Cabal, there are now more fragrances on my wish list - and on my girlfriend's too!
