With you, beside me. Here beside you.
We walk together through an endless sea of sand. Time passes slowly, and we wander aimlessly through this endless landscape. Venus greets the cool night of the desert. With the tarpaulin set up, we curl up on the sandy ground. This night in the desert exudes a wonderfully nostalgic scent, the scent of the unfamiliar and the anticipation of yet undiscovered worlds.

Around us lies a vast silence. Only the wind paints fleeting patterns in the dunes, whose shadows lose themselves deep blue in the darkness. Far on the horizon, the outlines glow like the echo of past sunlit hours. No sound, just the soft rustling of the sand and the steady, barely audible breathing of the world.

With my gaze into the starry night and my nose buried in her hair, dusty from the desert sand, I fall asleep. This scent accompanies me into sleep, allowing me to dream of the shimmering light over the gleaming desert sand in the distance.
The night fades away, the sky glows,
the sun kisses us warmly on cool sand.

Deserta starts with a photorealistic, dry, almost dusty desert earth. Soon, dry patchouli joins in, adding depth to the earthy character of the scent. As it develops, the fragrance becomes sunnier and warmer; lightly ambered, it fades beautifully. It lingers on the skin for a long time and has a moderate to strong sillage. We will surely hear more from Joschka Klee.

Dry and dark - like the desert at night.
Vapormundum is a small niche brand, where personal messages from Joschka, the owner, are still included with the orders. I wanted to get to know this brand and took a chance on a blind buy.
Here is the latest fragrance from Vapormundum: Deserta, an homage to the desert at night.
And that’s exactly how the scent unfolds on the skin. It is dark, earthy, and dry from the very first moment. Occasionally, it almost feels like burnt earth. Smoky and brittle. Strangely enough, this is coherent and interesting. There are no hints of biting smoke. It remains truly dark and dry - and piece by piece, the burnt earth transforms into smoldering wood.
For me, after some time, softer notes of cedarwood emerge, as if the burnt wood is being scraped away to give space to the pure wood aroma. At the same time, the fragrance becomes a bit more reserved, which I really like.
Later on, there are occasional hints of dark bittersweet chocolate, which I can really only perceive sporadically.
Overall, Deserta is on a peaceful path. The longer it stays on my skin, the sweeter and more pleasant it becomes. Even though the woody notes never completely disappear, the vanilla and a very gentle patchouli express themselves a bit more clearly.
Just like an extinguished, nighttime fire that gives way to the new day.
Conclusion:
Deserta is definitely one of my "niche-iest" fragrances and it is also definitely not "everybody’s darling." But I don’t think it wants to be. It has edges and corners and can perhaps feel too extreme in the first moments. But if you engage with it and give it the necessary time - then it is an exciting companion that consistently carves its own path.
Deserta definitely deserves a chance.

What more can I say about the fragrances.. They are simply grandiose.
Deserta is now the third fragrance I have tested from Joschka/Vapormundum, and this one has also convinced me once again. I just love the fragrances from Joschka.
Normally, I would actually have to buy them all at some point. Deserta even feels like my current favorite, but I felt the same way about the other two before. I simply love them all.

The fragrance starts off for me with an intense, very beautiful patchouli accord. I can really perceive the patchouli right from the beginning. It is slightly earthy, yet very pleasing.
Somehow, it also has a slightly "sandy" quality at the start. It has a hint of warm desert air.
The fragrance is already pleasantly spicy, woody, and slightly sweet.
I actually also get very slight nutty chocolate vibes.

It feels like various impressions are active together from the very beginning, and it just works super well.

Over time, the earthy theme becomes a bit more intense. It also becomes a bit spicier again.
Spicier, but never in the sense of a spice market or anything like that. It simply smells "differently spicy." Very, very fitting and truly beautiful.

Somehow, I imagine wearing a suit and having a business meeting in a room filled with wooden furniture, all a bit antique and elegantly old-school styled. Deserta would work excellently here.

The performance is also really good once again.
The fragrance lasts about eight to nine hours on my skin and projects really well.

Woody with Interesting Twists
The recently arrived fragrance sample came packaged in black with a personally signed greeting card from the perfumer. The sample container also appeared to be of high quality (made of glass with a metal cap and metal sprayer)

The fragrance composition seems to be just as high quality: the beginning is woody and dry, at first I thought I could hardly smell anything and sprayed several times. After a while, I thought I detected something earthy and an extremely minimalist sweetness. In the background, something reminded me of ISO-E Super, and a little later the scent unfolded towards sauna wood. At this point, I thought the scent seemed familiar to me. It could be that I was reminded of Encre Noir.
The next day, the sprayed T-shirt smelled very pleasant of wood with a very slight chocolate twist. The day after that, I then only smelled strong patchouli.

The sillage could be a bit stronger for my taste, as I find the price somewhat steep. I will probably test the other fragrances as well, because after "Deserta" I became curious about what other ideas Joschka is implementing.

Oh wow ... that brought back memories
So here it is ... Deserta. While others immediately think of deserts, my thoughts naturally drift back to food and I think of a lovely dessert. After studying the scent notes, I too realized that I probably won’t be smelling anything delicious here.

So, out come the test strips, Deserta goes on, and I let myself be surprised by what’s coming my way. I smell ... and smell ... and smell ... but nothing really reminds me of a specific scent note or anything similar. It smells nice, rather "soft," I would say, and yes, a bit earthy. Hmmm, that’s not enough for me; it has to go on my skin. There must be more to it.

Said and done. Hand out, Deserta back on, and a quick wave. Unlike on the test strip, this time I only need to bring my nose close to my hand, and I’m suddenly transported back to my childhood with a jolt. I didn’t expect that, and I had completely forgotten the memory, but this scent immediately reminds me of getting into our old W124 Mercedes E-Class in Turkey as a little child, which had been baking in the sun for hours. It’s sandy everywhere, the sun has been shining into the car the whole time, making it impossible to sit down without burning my backside. I open the door, of course, I sit down anyway, and it smells EXACTLY LIKE THAT.

Even though it’s a lovely memory, I can do without the scent, at least on my skin. I find it nicer and softer on the strip, but I have to say, it simply doesn’t "catch" me overall. But one must acknowledge: It smells exactly as the notes should have led one to believe.

It reminds me of "Patchouly Bohème | LM Parfums," which I prefer. Earthy, spicy, and sweet. Wear it, but don’t buy it.

Grounded by patchouli,
sparkling in the sunlight.
The sand still warm,
amber glimmers.
Nestled on clouds of vanilla,
just enjoy.

Sweetened patchouli dominates here, the rest is rather average and in the drydown it feels too synthetic and woody for me. Still solid!

For me, mainly cedar and this earthy-sweet scent of soy milk/cardboard. Does the desert smell like this?

Dry earth, beautifully balanced,
amber and patchouli provide structure, while the light sweetness and vanilla create an alluring charm.
