A wild ride through the night
Electri is the second fragrance I've tried from Vapormundum. Again, it was a blind buy out of curiosity.
The special thing about Electri is the fact that it can be delivered with 2 additional accords (sparkling champagne and burnt incense). This means that I can give the existing fragrance an individual twist, depending on the moment, occasion or mood. You could call this approach layering to perfection.
I am too new to these areas of the perfume world and cannot say whether Joschka Klee, the mastermind behind the fragrances, had a new idea here or whether this is "old hat". For me, at any rate, it's completely new territory. Please let me know what you think in the comments.
The packaging and presentation are impeccable. Let's quickly move on to the fragrance itself.
Immediately after spraying it on, I can feel peppery spicy notes, which are then quickly overlaid by patchouli and (for me a little too present) labdanum. The first time I tried it, this was the moment that made me doubt whether this blind buy was a wise decision.
And while I'm still pondering this (because again I have brief doubts), something rough and smoky emerges from the middle of these aromas and covers them all like a dark woollen cloak. Warm, dark - and a little scratchy, this incense coat, but I like it a lot.
Thank goodness, I have to say, because it retains this status for some time.
It's true, I feel like I've been transported back to my youth, when we turned night into day in smoky rock clubs. And just like in those days - there's no champagne for me here either. Electri remains dark and raw - and I'm enjoying every second of it now.
And then, very slowly, I notice how the raw elements give way to a discreet sweetness. The doors seem to have been opened in the rock shed, because the smoke becomes more and more distant and I notice the old, worn wooden floor. I can detect soft sandalwood notes as the incense drifts out of the windows and disappears into the night sky. I can't say for sure whether the light sweetness is vanilla - at least I can detect it.
Electri is definitely a wild ride through the dark - and it has a few (minor) lows as well as many highs, but it fits so perfectly into my current scent preferences that it casts a spell over me.
But now the simple question arises: What about the two accords? And now the whole thing gets exciting.
Sparkling Champagne delivers exactly what its name suggests. These are sparkling, bright notes, slightly tart. - Just as if ice-cold drinks were being served in a rock bar. A successful experience in itself.
In combination with the base perfume, something new is created.
The Rockschuppen now becomes more of a club, more lightshow, harder beats, cooler cocktails - but also less warmth, less soul(?). It's a balancing act to get the "right" mix - but it's an exciting game. There are so many possible variations, so many decisions to be made: which part comes first? How do I dose which part? How simultaneously or delayed do I use fragrance and accord? The consumer becomes an active part of the fragrance, of Joschka's creation. Very, very exciting.
And then there's "Burnt Incense".
This accord is less dark than I would have expected. Pure incense, certainly. Something clicks in my head and I search for the association and quickly find it. I once attended a mass in Notre Dame de Paris - and I find this incense again after a few minutes. Clear, concise, perfect.
The creative possibilities multiply with this chord - and are somewhat overwhelming me at the moment. - I definitely have to admit that.
So what can I say in conclusion?
Electri is definitely a difficult fragrance, and I can understand anyone who says "no thanks". But it picks me up, here and now. Electri doesn't come around the corner smart and elegant and wants to please everyone. Electri is more of a bad boy that you first have to dare to approach.
I think it's great and only wish the accords had been delivered a little more generously. 8ml is a little too short for me. So Joschka, if you're reading this, Dominik here ;)
Try Electri - it's worth it!
